Looks like schizophrenic branding to me. Way to many options. Branding out of control.

We just basically need to loose the cartoon lion and get a lion with some character.

The new logos look too generic and Central Florida-ish to me.

At first it looks like the product on an unholy union between the Colorado and South Florida marks. I think I'd like the shield a lot more than the word mark with the ram horn coming out of the V, because that sounds like one of those "great in theory, horrid in practice" ideas.

As for too many logos: That's pretty much what branding is these days. Primary marks, secondary marks, tertiary marks, specialty marks, one-time marks and so forth. The Charlotte Hornets rolled out a pyramid of the hierarchy of its marks with four layers in decreasing prominence.

To make it more ODU-centric, I don't mind the lion. I do mind the word mark because it looks like it came out of a low-rent 3-D RPG for the N64. Serif fonts are generally not great choices when you're trying to make a short but bold statement, which is exactly what you're aiming for with your name. And the banner is one too many elements. A variation of the lion head shield with a crisp ODU mark would hit the spot, I'd think.

I like them. A heck of a lot better than that last crappy one they had. I still like the one before that with the rams head in the V.

I also like ODU's athletic logo just fine. Not a huge fan of the puffy crown, but at least it ties in historically to what was on the head of the foodlion and the signage in the Ted and on campus. Not a big proponent of changing logos all the time. ODU has a good one now. The weird grappling hook ball game crown we have now is weak.
VCUs sucked, so they were smart to change it.

VCU Sucks. New LOGO sucks. The Mascot "Rams" is overused and unoriginal.

The word marks are nice but the ram logo sucks. haha.

EDIT- The primary marks and word marks are not bad at all. I think it was a mistake to make the primary wordmarks mostly white though. Why not use more gold and black? Secondary marks fail. Overall I'd grade the rebrand a C.

Second Edit- Why do so many feel the need to question why threads were created? That's really idiotic.
