From my vantage point, which was pretty much floor level, when Whittington was standing at the foul line next to Boothe or Garber, he was at least three inches taller than either player. WMU list him at 6-10, while UT lists Boothe and Garber at 6-9. Fortunately we won't have to go against Whittington next year. He looks like a 7 footer.
I'm glad we have Booth, but can you imagine our team if we had someone as mobile and athletic as Whittington on our team. Booth can shoot and is a big body, but I wouldn't classify him as athletic or someone with great leaping ability. I thought Whittington played a great game and I'm glad he's graduating. I also hope we don't have to meet them again. I'd rather play OU with N'dour vs. WMU with Whittington.
Boothe and Garber just need more experience against legit big men and more strength conditioning. What a different player Dick Miller was when he came back from the US Pan-Am team and Coach Knight.
The thing we did late in the game against Whittington was when he got the ball, we had someone run at him and double-team him. That really seemed to bother him.
Another thing that really helped was when Weatherspoon guarded him, JD really moved on D and kept fronting him, making it difficult for Whittington to get the ball.
Hopefully these are couple of things we'll see more of in the future. We've got to do a better job at defending post players.
Whittington is a really good post player.

Very talented.
Great player. JD blocking his layup was a key defensive play. He was killing us to that point.
No question he's a special athlete. I'll bet he'll have no problem finding a place to play after college, it he wishes to do so.
WMU was 8/12 or 13 from three in the fat half. 0/11 in the second half. The last time we played em, they shot the lights out early and we couldn't catch up.

When I first saw Whittington in a Bronco uniform during his true frosh year, I didn't think he would score 20 points in his entire career. No joke...he was nothing like he is today. Hawkins gave him a redshirt during his soph year and it helped a ton.

Most MAC Centers will benefit from a redshirt year. Those big guys need some extra time to develop their skills. Boothe will be really tough to match up with in his senior year. I wish all the Rocket post players could get a fifth year.

I like what Booth brings to the table, but I'm not sure he'll develop any more athletisism than what he has now. He'll just get more confident in his shot and he'll learn how to avoid some of the dumb fouls he gets called for. I liked how Whittington moves and is active. Booth is a big body, but still gets too many shots blocked for my liking.

Please recall what we had BEFORE Boothe. Mr. Shortname who had fifth graders coming out of the stands to swat his shots away. Never good to have a center named Lo. Boothe looks like an Olympic champion decathlete athletically next to Mo. I'd love to have a Whittington but few MAC teams do.

Crazy thing is...WMU was Whittington's only DI offer. I'll readily give Hawkins credit for signing him. He saw a 6'10" guy that can run the floor and jump. 5 years ago I saw a 6'10" guy that I thought should be playing DIII ball.

His career really came full circle. Fifth graders poured from the stands to block his shots, but by the end of his career he was sitting in the stands watching games after he was suspended from the team.
Lo finished out his senior season, right? Thought he was a model citizen? Don't remember a suspension. I would just watch and think to myself that in 4 years that kid put on maybe 5 lbs and that was because he ate a footlong sub at lunch.

I like that we'll have Booth for two more years, but you'll never see him drop step and flush one through the rim. It's not his game, but if he gets his 10-12 points and 7-8 rebounds per game and clogs up the middle, he'll get an A+ in my book. Garber, I'm not so sure, he has the athletisism but, not sure where his career is going to go? If he turns out to be more like Whittington in his SR year, we could only be so lucky.

MoLo finished his career at Fairleigh Dickinson (or some random school like that) I believe.

He used to sit in the student section and laugh at how bad they were.
Yeah a quick google shows he finished at FD. I had no idea, wow? I could have sworn I suffered through four years of watching him. Maybe it just felt like it. Actually there are about 4-5 years where I'm a complete blank on who actually played for us from the end of Joplin to the start of Coach K. There was such a revolving door.....

Centers - Kareem Milson, MoLo, Allan Pinson, Justin Anyijong, Zac Taylor, Jordan Dressler, Ian Salter, Devin Russell, Delino Dear, Richard Wonnell...
Ok, I think I was mixing up MoLo and Justin Anyijong. I remember now, completly different bodies. I was thinking Anyijon visually but thinking his name was MoLo. Old age is setting in.
