Luckily states like Kansas and Nebraska are doing things that are even more dumb and keeping the spotlight off of Montgomery

Based upon my experiences, and knowing people from just about all 50 states, everyone thinks this of his or her own state government, for the most part.

Iowa does stupid things all the time; however, I have the advantage of having lived in Alabama and Tennessee to put it in perspective, and suddenly, Iowa doesn't look so stupid.

Well, at least your rain isn't taxed.

People in many states read about Alabama increasing its state income tax credits for all kinds of middle and upper income folks and say "Well, many states don't even collect state income taxes - so what's the big deal?" In Alabama though, the state income tax is one of the two major supports of all levels of public education. How many states support their public schools primarily from that source?
