What is your choice?

I give the nod to March Madness. The First Weekend (Thursday-Sunday) are the four best days of sports period.

I agree, it's March Madness. I do enjoy the Bowl Games as well.
I prefer March Madness to bowl games but usually the regular season of football to the regular season of basketball.
March Madness, of course. Not a fair comparison because those games count and the bowl games are just exhibitions.

The playoff is a step in the right direction for CFB, though they are mucking it up (in terms of TV appeal) two out of every three years by playing the semifinals on December 31, which isn't the most convenient day for TV watching. I think it's going to be a hard sell to try to make a 7-hour block on New Year's Eve into must-see TV, but we'll find out for sure in December 2015.
Ill take a football game a day for a month.
Football, hands down
March Madness. You also know Winters about over. Everyone's fired up. St. Patrick's day has all of the Basketball Fans pumped up at the Pubs. Around Here a lot of Red and Blue mixed in with the Green. Also helps to have National Champions from This State revving up the Fan Bases.
Easily March Madness. An 8 team football playoff would definitely close the gap though.
You said it in the original post. The first weekend of the NCAA tourney is very exciting. Then the excitement kinda fizzles as teams drop off. By the time of the final 4, I often completely forget the games are even on.

its almost the complete opposite of most playoffs. It gets less exciting each round.

This.
I would rather watch sunbelt/Mac FB than SEC/B12 BB.
Right now March Madness....going forward the CFP...
March Madness
March madness gets the edge due to title hopes.

College football spreads the "games that matter" to include the regular season more. Lose once and you could be done even in September. The cutthroat nature draws eyeballs.

Hoops is all about the tournament, unless you are a bubble team nothing else matters for a top 25 team in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe the 4 team playoff will surpass both.
It's like asking do I prefer a nice juicy steak or a banana split? 02-13-banana I love 'em both, just like bowl season and March Madness. Based on my viewing habits I'd have to say 06-football bowl season only because I watch EVERY ACC bowl but I do miss some of the ACC games in the 06-basketball tournament... but it's VERY close.
03-2thumbsup

This. The NCAA Tournament is almost perfectly paced as an event. However, the trade-off is that the college basketball regular season doesn't mean much.
NCAA tournament and college basketball over anything related to college football. Until college football moves to a 16 team playoff that includes conference champions just about every game is a glorified exhibition unless you are in the hunt for a conference championship or playoff spot.

I always disagree with people that believe college basketball's regular season doesn't mean anything. College basketball is a journey, you watch your team go through the good and bad of a season building to tournament play. Sometimes a single game can change the fate of a team.

Football's sample size is so small that we might not get to see enough big games to determine how good a team really is. Games are spread apart to point where each week feels disjointed from the entire season, the bowl season itself is completely disconnected from this season. Not mention the silly season of coaching changes that occurs between the final regular season game and the bowls.
March Madness, even moreso since the number of bowls has grown exponentially, and at worst in the hoops tourney you only have a sub-500 conference champion that will die early.
It's March Madness and it's not even close.

Now, when college football institutes an eight or 16 team playoff that's when everything would change. However, if the choice is the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament or the Whogivesashit Peanut Allergy Bowl in lovely Bismarck, ND, I'm sorry but that isn't even debatable.
March Madness but as many others said, it will probably be replaced once they up the participants in the football playoff.
