...what do you think would happen?

How would it elevate the conference? How would it improve the next TV deal? Does it piss off the P5 so much that they finally go ahead and break away? Does a P5 conference come in and take that school?

.....?
Hope we find out.
Would be a good problem to have
In some ways it would elevate the conference and increase visibility and demand for both TV viewers and tickets.

Unfortunately, however - and I'm just being honest - I believe that the individual school who wins it will use it as a way to get out.
BCS Bowl victory and NCAA championship in the inaugural season? Yes please.
The best thing for the conference is for multiple teams to make it into the Sweet 16 and elite 8, not for a single team to run the table.
Well, if UConn wins it, it will certainly send a statement that we'll continue to expect championships regardless of coach or conference. For as long as UConn is in the conference, there will be a chance that the AAC will win the national championship in hoops, and obviously also women's hoops.
Butler made back to back finals and it didn't exactly put the Horizon league all over ESPN.

No! But, it did give Butler a better lot in life.
AAC vs AAC championship game? Why not?

SMU/Memphis winning would be a dream for the league

most ACC AD have told mcmurphy uconn is next inline to join if anyone else leaves. winning the NC would honestly start pushing the question of adding them anyway without losing teams. and honestly the perception if they win is "uconn is so much better than this league and deserves to be in a better conference" not "the AAC just made a national statement"

cincy dramatically increases there big 12 stock winning the NC.

smu and memphis aren't going anywhere anytime soon. them winning sends a statement of the leagues strength and longevity, especially SMU (memphis is already considered elite)

as for pissing of P5, theyd applaud it, they can take any off us if they easily want, the fact that those teams in there backpocket are increasing there value is a great thing. so when the time ever comes that they lose member, and they add 1 of us, they can say they added value

if we took a playoff that would be a different situation .

as far as tv deal. renegotiation is in 6 years, honestly what we do the next two years wont matter, it come down to how we finish the last 4. what we do the next 2/3 years will be building blocks on our perception and get more eyes on us which will help build on the last few but we could win the next 2 ncaa bball championship and get the access next year but if the following 4 years we only have 2 qualify the tourney and are eliminated early yearly and no significant bowl/ooc wins, our contract wont increase much. the years before the renegotiation will be more telling of the increase than the beginning of our current contract
That clown Kevin Ollie won't win a NC. Go Bearcats!

True. I was just responding about the impact on the league as a whole.

I think we have a bit of a leg up on the horizon league.

Correct answer.
I agree with pesik on some points. I think a Cincy win would really start their countdown clock. I'm sure most Cincy fans are praying for this :).

UCONN, I think it helps them more then helps the conference but I don't think it hurts the conference that much either. A Memphis Champ, despite popular belief I think it helps them really get in the B12 target convo IMO. SMU would be great for the conference especially with UL leaving. Gives us another feather in the cap. SMU like UH has few options in regards to leagues.

A deep run by a few of them would be great for the conference BB wise as it will show even with UL leaving we still are a very good BB league.

I wouldn't necessarily count memphis out for leaving anytime soon. What a lot of people don't realize is that Memphis has made phenomenal strides in academics. A lot of Tiger fans were not a fan of former president, Shirley Raines, but she DID drastically increase academics. Acceptance qualifications are higher than Ole Miss and Mississippi State. As for sports, basketball is ready. Baseball is greatly improved. Minor sports (men's/women's soccer, golf, tennis, etc) stay in the top 25. Football is lacking, but seems to be going in the right direction. As far as facilities, we are about to break ground on a new indoor practice facility for football. Once completed, we will have top notch football facilities. We already have a great basketball practice facility, but are about to break ground on a new one that will be tops in the country. The liberty bowl is now fantastic after all of the renovations. And alas, let's not forget the effect that Fred Smith's checkbook can have!
