UAB (169) hosts Southern Miss (43) Thursday evening. (Pomeroy numbers)

Southern Miss is favored 71-66.

USM is 21-3 and 8-1. They are having a fantastic season. However their best win is an 80-71 home victory over LaTech (49).

Southern Miss typically starts four seniors and one junior.

UAB's stock has fallen big time. UAB is now 14-9 and 3-6. UAB's worst loss was a road loss to FIU (260), 78-73.
Southern Miss lost at Western Kentucky (162), 68-65, back in December.

UAB's best win was back on Dec. 1st when UAB beat North Carolina (26), 63-59.
We will have to play a near perfect game to beat them. I do think they are beatable though. A UAB win would really confuse computers everywhere! ! !
I think we will play them a good game.
Their point guard is (5-10 170 Sr) Neil Watson. From the free throw line, Watson is 89-95, or 93.7%. He didn't miss any free throws during January, going 30-30.

His highest point total was 28 against ODU, but only scored 3 last Sunday against Charlotte.

Last season Watson shot 80% from the free throw line, and 84% the previous season.
Should be a fun game. I wouldn't be surprised if we stole a couple of these games against the top teams in the conference. My expectations have officially been lowered. Against Southern Miss in particular, they'll need to hit less that 4 three's for us to have a chance.
I don't expect us to be blown out, but I'm not counting on a win either. I think we will play a better game against them than we have played in the past 6 or 7 games - just a hunch. A win against USM would be extra sweet, because we'd likely spoil their at large hopes.
Neil Watson, for his 3-year career at USM, is now 323-378 from the foul line (85.4%). Those stats only include D-1 games.

So how does his shooting skills transfer to behind the 3-point arc? So far this season he is 43-110 or 39.1%. Last season he was 44.2 % and the previous season 37.5%.

He has to be considered one of the premier shooters in the conference.
I'd rather us tank at this point completely eliminate all possibility of the NIT than play this thin-ice mentality year after year that usually breaks through into freezing cold water.

Huh?what are you on?
we haven't had any thin-ice mentality or NIT-possibility the past 2 years. we sucked the entire year both years, with the exception of the last 6-7 games lastyear
I believe we win...
Well, tomorrow is my birthday, February 13th. I'll be just 58. I think I'll go buy me some Chuck Taylors.
Just 58?!? You mean you're 30 years younger than Memphis blazer?

I snapped a photo at the last game and got the two of them in it. Memphis Blazer's and The Gorilla's seats are very close to one another. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Great seats.
For the sake of conversation, I wonder how a win tomorrow would effect our RPI?
It would improve it, a little.

We have way too many WTF's for a single game to have a big impact.
Awesome picture Phil hahaha

It'd improve it substantially, but the number would still suck overall
