I wonder if the Miners are going to maybe get a vote or two. I doubt it, but I can hope.
now I'm really pumpernickled......

edit disclaimer: not slammin' you....I hate media perceptive mind carving and was responding to thread title
Someone is going to have to give the mighty American Eagles with their 14-9 record and 149 rpi a second point if we are to remain tied again this week!
I saw where we may end up as a #11 seed in March. Hopefully a few more really good wins & we will be a little higher.
WTG Sourthern Miss.

I've seen Southern Miss and UTEP play in Norfolk. Both great teams. Looking forward to see who will win that game...

The thing that sucks about the current state of the conference is that is probably about right. We all basically have no margin for error. Do I think Southern Miss is deserving of a see higher than 11? Sure. Do I think they'll get one if they win out? Nope, and if they do it'll only be a 9 or 10. I'd rather have the 11 for a chance at two wins.

Southern Miss currently has two 100+ losses and 3 top 100 wins. There are only two more regular season games in the top 100 for them, and both of those are closer to 100 than 50. It's very hard to judge how good Southern Miss is objectively with little data to go off of. Hopefully our conference will discuss OOC scheduling in the offseason, and hopefully we can get 6 or 7 teams into the top 100, rather than 3 or 4. We need multiple teams in the conference to be really good for our teams to get seeded in the single digits for the tournament.

That someone would be John Feinstein who wrote a book several years ago on Patriot League basketball. He had Harvard ranked #24 and American #25. Harvard lost to Yale last week and American dropped two games. Before that, American had won 9 straight so it was his chance to give a shout out to some old friends. Regardless, I wouldn't be too hopeful that those votes are made in support of Southern Miss. Feinstein is a northeast guy with lots of connections with basketball blue bloods. He'll pick an ACC or Big East team and give them the nod.

Actually we're still only 1 100+ loss (Tulsa). We need WKy to get some more wins though to keep it from being two (they're right at 100).

For what it's worth.. I'll take a 13, 14, 15, etc. seed... just need to get in and then have some USM magic go our way in round 1 :)

As of the current RPI, Southern Miss has 1 100+ loss (Tulsa at 135) and 1 top 50 win (NDSU at 48) and 2 51-100 wins (LA Tech & GA State).
Sorry guys, my numbers were a little off because I used realtimerpi and it hasn't updated yet. Either way, the numbers still aren't great. They provide a good example of the issues I was pointing out. I'm not trying to take anything away from your season, I'm merely pointing out what the Selection Committee is going to have to look at.(and NDSU being 40 or 60 probably isn't going to have an effect on your seeding, only 1 sub 100 loss might though)
you can't "ignore" a win and then 'count' a loss.

I just vote for .. USM just needs to win the whole thing and put the argument to rest :)

we did a mention on cbs's website thougH:

Quote:Quietest 21-3 team in the country? Might be Southern Miss, which improved to 8-1 in Conference USA after beating Charlotte.
USM gets 6 points this week. Up from 1 last week.
Congradulations USM. You are having a great season.

I didn't ignore the win, I merely said that NDSU being 40 or 60 probably isn't going to do much to your seeding. If they were 20, that's another story. I also didn't count a loss, I said having just one(as opposed to two) sub 100 loss would be of a greater benefit in my opinion.

Would rather be an 11 or 12 seed than a 7-10 seed due to 2nd (or I guess now 3rd) round match-ups.
