at Texas Tech. Game coming down to the end and he falls out of bounds. A fan says something, and Smart gets up and shoves him. Surprisingly, he only got a technical and wasn't kicked out of the game.

After the game, Texas Tech fans storm the court and Smart has to be physically removed from the court by his teammates.
Was the fan wearing an orange jumpsuit? 03-lmfao
Being reported that that the fan, Jeff Orr said "Go back to Africa" to Marcus Smart
Nothing good happens in Lubbock, TX. Smart shoulda gone Ron Artest on him if that's the true story.

I've always marveled at "sports racists." How in the world does someone say something like that with a high level of conviction, knowing that there are young men that wear their schools jersey that are also African-American?
the radio said there is tape of smart telling a coach right after it happened that the fan called him the n word. texas tech fans were patting the fan on the back after it happened. I would hope uab fans would be taking one of our own to task if that happened.

Well if you listen to the legend of the Mempiss fans, OJM called Pierre Hamburglar every racial slur in the book! That was also before we imprisoned two dozen of them deep within the bowels of Bartow Arena.
And hit Shawn Taggert in the face with a softball bat, and broke a vodka bottle over the squid's head. Don't forget that.

Don't forget the barrel bombs of urine either!
The "fan" in the stands looked a little too happy after the incident.

The seats look a little too close to the floor as well.

I've often wondered the same thing.
my guess is that the truth is somewhere in the middle.
of course Smart's not going to say "he said good play and wished me well, so I pushed him." He's going to twist the story to make himself seem as justified as possible.
Of course the fan isn't going to say "he fell out of bounds, so i called him a stupid N…and told him to go back to Africa." He's going to adjust the story to make himself seem like the victim.

Both these guys did something stupid and we'll likely never know which one was dumber b/c we'll never know the true story. it won't stop us from picking sides
Yep.

1. Don't put your hands on a fan. You just don't.

2. Don't be a racist ass and be surprised when you get hands put on you. You just don't.

I know which one was dumber. The one who had something to lose reacted. The fan has nothing on the line, the player did...and he blew it.

This isn't like some out of the blue anger problem either, he has a documented history.
Ironic that last year Smart had an excellent reputation, gave up millions as a first round NBA pick because he wanted to have mire fun as a college his.

Doesn't sound like he is having fun.
And the truth is no one really knows what the guy said to him except the guy, the 5 people sitting around him, and Smart. All the stuff flying around on ESPN and Twitter about what he did or didn't say isn't based on anything except rumor.
Looks like OSU is calling a press conference at 5pm CT to address the issue.
It's like this: people like to say we have the freedom of speech in this country, and we do. You can say whatever you want. Go to town with it if you want to.

But, freedom of speech isn't a one-way street; the other person has the same freedoms and rights as you do. I can't say that he overreacted, because I would've probably done the same thing.

Say what you want; just realize there are repercussions to everything.
You're free to say anything you wish to say. Just understand that there can be consequences... you can have things said back, get punched in the mouth, get shot, lose your job, get sued, whatever.

Just because you *can* do something does not mean that you should.
The fan, Jeff Orr says he called Smart a "piece of crap" and denies a racial slur. Has volunteered not to attend anymore TTU games this year.

Smart has been suspended three games
