Does anyone else have the same consistent problem with stoping and starting or "buffering" on the Monarch Media clips like press conferences and coaches' shows? I have a new computer and new Windows program but I can't seem to get a consistently good feed. Any ideas? Thanks

Yeah, it was one of the things that I brought up during the focus group. It seemed to get better for a while; but it looks like it has since regressed. It may also have something to do with the excess traffic associated with signing day.
I have exactly the same problem.
Me too. Its unwatchable.
Watched the signing day press conference live with no issues and just watched tennis highlights without a problem. I have a Mac.
I have more of an issue with live feeds, but yes, nearly unwatchable.
So is Drunkard the only one accessing this with a Mac? Just trying to narrow down the potential bug list. ODU needs to get their IT or such on this ASAP, as this is is a paid service after all. (Right? I don't subscribe...)
I don't think its about watching it on Mac or PC, the streaming itself sucks really bad when the viewer count increases. Can't we afford a T3 line and some openstack kinda environment to host the source. I mean common we are theee frickin school of Hampton Roads. We need to step it up and improve on that front.
Sometimes it works fine. Others I have the buffering problem and have to give up. Drives me nuts.
Just one of those things that our admin needs to invest more time and effort in if they want to be taken seriously in the media market of NCAA sports. I'm sure someone will catch on, patch some things, and maybe get a raise. Honestly I think that we should be searching for any way to get an edge in this particular field.
You may need to change your settings.

From the All Access site:
"The video doesn't look very good:
We recommend increasing your buffer time. This will make the initial download slower, but will make the streaming video run smoothly once it has started. While increasing your buffer time, you might also want to try adjusting the video acceleration to halfway, instead of full.

To find these options, open the program Windows Media Player and press the ALT button on your keyboard. You will then see a small options menu open. Select "Tools," and then go to "Options."

Once you are in "Options," look for the "Performance" tab. This is where you will find both the buffer length, and video acceleration. Try setting the buffer length to 20 seconds, applying the options, and then refresh your stream."

I hardly ever experience problems with Monarch Media.
Asking someone to do all of that is ridiculous. Just fix the stream. You want to be taken seriously? You want to be one of the big boys? Act like it. This admin pays no attention to details. Really, its everywhere you look.

Why don't you say it like it is. They sell themselves to us as "big time" when the entire athletic apparatus is at the Division 3 level. It's one thing to claim that your football team is FBS. That's the easy part. Supporting it and other sports at the FBS level is quite another thing. All it would take is millions of dollars that we will never have.

MO, I tried it at 15, then 20, and finally 25 seconds without seeing any improvement. I finally just reset it to the default option. What really hacks me off is that the commercials at the beginning of Monarch Media videos always run just fine. Very irritating.

Also, I could not find a place to adjust video acceleration.

Thanks for the info. At least I now know that window exists. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

I wish I still had a friend that worked at OCCS I could ask about the Teds infrastructure.
Thanks for the responses. At least I know it isn't just me. Does anyone know anyone who works on the ODU website who can tell them about our frustrations and ask that they do something about it?

When watching live events, I've found that if I drop the quality from 720 to 540 I have less issues.

ODU really needs to upgrade this system!!!
i watch the games from WA state and have no issues with bandwidth or quality. I pay the monthly fee and am quite plesantly surprised with the HD images on the laptop. now, i do have issues with the quality of the content (ie. the sloppy play) that is carried by that nice internet signal. Batten is spaz!

I won't go this far, but last nights game through monarch media was the best its been this season. I also liked that they kept the score and clock on the screen the whole game. usually they just show it after a score and then it disappears. maybe they updated something? I don't know, but last nights was good.
