Here is the story of Malik McDowell, the excellent lineman from Southfield, who wants to go to MSU. His parents are divorced or whatever; his mother has sole custody. As it turns out NEITHER parent wants him to go to MSU. The father is relenting but can not sign the NLI (National Letter of Intent) because he doesn't have joint (or sole) custody.

The article discusses the NLI and the Big Ten tender (that is what gives the student-athlete the $). It is the tender, not the NLI which gets the $. NLI just keeps other programs from tampering with the prospect.

This is one reason more and more ADs are lawyers.

From what I've heard the parents are all over the board - changing their minds and reasons with regard as to where they want their son to go. Apparently, the mom has cited several reasons and/or excuses why she doesn't want her son to sign with MSU (the reasons and/or excuses change with the wind). It doesn't appear as though Michigan even factors into their reasons and/or excuses.

Now folks (should) know why there is a NLI (national letter of intent) program.

Get the recruit signed, sealed and ready for summer delivery and prevent the recruiting from continuing ad infinitum.

Malik could not sign the LOI, which is a national binding letter, as both his parents would not sign. Hence he is still legally uncommitted and now the fun begins... He is taking more visits and...

What does that matter? The kid isn’t going to Michigan. I do think this is a weird situation. Something is amiss.
Something stinks. Obviously mom is going to get paid by a scumbag booster. What great examples these "adults" are for Malik. College athletics is beyond corrupt.

According to ESPN Radio here in GR, Malik is going to take unofficial visits to Ohio State and Florida State.

Both scummy programs. However his HS coach says that's not true, he's still planning on attending MSU. This is another Cam Newton dad situation. I'm sure it goes on constantly, especially down south.
So fishy
