Buchanon from Pleasant Grove ends up at Alabama A&M

Just from curiosity to sense any trend that may be developing for FB schollys from state public schools for BCS-type schools that might reflect effects of state cutbacks in per pupil funding from the SETF over the past 5 years.
UA 6; AU 6; MS St 4 were the leaders; GA Tech, AFA 3 ea; Vandy, Wake, Minn 2 ea; SC, Syr, Cinnci, TX Tech, OK, BYU, TNK, KY, and Penn St 1 ea. That's 37 total from all Alabama public high schools. Is that an aberration or a trend? Can the state continue to cut public school funding for years and there be no effect on secondary school sports? (I did not add in scholarships for players who attended private academies.)

Why apologize for revealing truth? I did not invent those numbers, nor did you. I can remember when EACH of AU and UA signed over a dozen state players. Last year it was about 7 each and this year it is 6 each. I point to "the handwriting on the wall" and you are embarrassed that you had anything to do with its notice.

There is a huge difference between our two BCS schools signing national classes because they CAN, and doing it because they MUST in order to get the quality of players no longer available in our underfunded state public schools. Maybe next year we can count their instate signings on one hand for each school? (BTW, UAB signed only 4)

Alabama & Auburn has gone national with their recruiting because they can get better quality recruits nationally than they can locally.

Does this mean that locally the quality is getting worse? Nope.

The numbers of signees this year from those that played within the state is not any worse than any other year, if anything it is a lot better.

For schools like Samford, JSU, Troy, & USA, most of the recruits are from within the state.

UAB is trying to get to that point.

You MAY be correct if this is a one year aberration. If not, we may see the lesser programs trying harder to do the same thing UA and AU did last year and again (with UAB) this year. Perhaps in a few more years, those state schools below USA, Troy, JSU, Samford and UAB will become the dominant schools for the majority of instate high school players.

This list had Samford, Troy and USA with 4 each, Jax St with 20, and UNA with 13. Miles College had 17 -- only 7 less than all state D1 schools combined. I hurried so I did not delete private schools. If it is a trend, you can see where it is apparently headed.

Will you just let it go? Everything does not have to be about this. It's simple math. Alabama has approximately 5,000,000 people in it. The country has approximately 315 million. That means Alabama has about 1.5% of the country's population. You really expect Alabama to put out as many quality recruits as Texas, California, Florida, etc., not to mention any JUCO guys out there? Alabama and Auburn can basically have their pick of guys in this state, and what is left over is obviously not as good as what they can get elsewhere. There is not a direct correlation between funding and the number of D-1 players in a state that you can prove.

Yes, It is simple math -- the state invests less and less in its public schools since the middle of the last decade (Alabama is #1 in America in cutting per pupil funding since 2008), and the result is that its two major universities (and the other state D1 programs as well) look elsewhere for the bulk of quality players they must have to play for NCs.

Where was this "population argument" when AU and UA were winning while each was signing dozens of state public school graduates?

These numbers didn't just drop in 2014, they have been in decline for over a decade. None of the state's recent Heisman Trophy winners came from state high schools and only a few of its NFL draftees. We are being saved from FB oblivion by the increasingly few suburban districts that still locally fund their local school's programs on at least a regional scale.

I think people would accept your argument if it were based in logic or facts, neither of which are present here. To draw a line between out of state recruiting and underfunded schools without supporting facts is going to take a mighty agile pencil
