I wouldn't say home cooking, but it was so far out of whack it's hard to believe. Wonder if Joe will turn the tape over to the league office. I'll be interested in hearing what he says about it at the next luncheon.04-cheers

I always have to laugh when I hear fans talk about the "free throw disparity". Generally, a team gets called for more fouls because they foul more often. I only watched part of the women's game, so maybe you have a point in this one case. I'm thinking more of the hog fans who always blame losses on the officiating. Haven't heard a lot of complaints after yesterday's game against LSU. Hogs made 25-27 free throws, LSU made 11-16. So hogs made 14 more free throws and lost by 14. Might have been ugly if the refs were "fair".

I have no idea if the officiating was fair or not. But when one team shoots a great many more free throws than the other, especially if it's the home team, it always puts up a red flag to me. Of course if it's UALR shooting all the free throws, I have no problem.04-cheers

Look, I understand the refs are not always perfect and sometimes not even close. But I still think it's funny when fans look up at the scoreboard and complain because one team has 7 fouls and the other team has 2 (just an example). The refs job is not to make sure the foul count for both teams is even, but to call fouls when they occur. Certainly, in most cases, a Mike Anderson coached team that relies on pressing, steals, and aggressive defense is going to commit more fouls than the other team. Doesn't mean the refs are biased one way or the other. Maybe I give the refs too much credit, but when we have significantly more fouls I tend to believe it is because we are fouling more often.
One thing to consider about the women's game or games might be that we have no inside game, so we take more perimeter shots. Normally you don't see teams fouling as much on perimeter shots. Since most teams we've played have some sort of big than can score a little, they get the ball inside more, and they are more fouls committed guarding the paint than guarding the perimeter. And in my opinion, this team doesn't play defense anywhere near what most Foley teams do. They're out of position more, and do more holding and grabbing than moving their feet.
