Here's the release:

Adam Hrycaniuk has become the ninth and final member of the University of Cincinnati basketball recruiting class.
Hrycaniuk, a 6-10, 230-pound center who earned all-region honors at Trinity Valley Community College last season, has enrolled at UC and will be eligible to compete for the Bearcats beginning with the 2006-07 season.
Hrycaniuk is the second 6-10 player signed by the Bearcats, joining Hernol Hall on the Cincinnati roster.
"Adam is a hard-nosed guy who has a soft shooting touch," stated UC head coach Mick Cronin. "I like the intangibles and the toughness he brings to the court, as well as his ability. Adam is a good person and a true student-athlete and I am excited to have him on board."
Hrycaniuk averaged 11.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season at Trinity Valley. He was selected to play for the Region XIV all-star team and scored 14 points in a game vs. a team of all-stars selected nationally.
A native of Mysliborz, Poland, Hrycaniuk played at Barton County Community College in Kansas during the 2004-05 season, averaging 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds.
Lack of inside size has been a weakness for years; KUDOS to Mick for addressing this area!

Sea Change Alert. New AD, new coaching staff and an effort to clean up the national rep of how the athletic dept. operates may have just gotten UC a fair shake from the NCAA oligarchy for the first time in a long while. :clap2:
Well, let's see how Vaughn's situation works out, assuming Paigers' rumor is correct. And Paigers was right about Carriere.

Vaughn is more critial than Adam H, in my view. He's our only non-juco player and we'll be screwed at the PG slot without him. Hopefully the rumor is false.

I hear ya. But deep down, despite what effect it has on our team, if the NCAA were to put the kibosh on him becasue he came from a diploma mill, then IMO he doesn't deserve to play for a year. I'm guessing that the kids that went to the black-listed schools knew what the program was all about before they enrolled.

I have no problem with NCAA decisions that hurt the program if they are justified based upon looking at the facts objectively.

BTW: if Vaughn didn't play, how bummed would Dom Tilford be for his decision. Doh!
Enquirer doesn't report him as cleared YET...

UC targets post player
BY BILL KOCH | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER
The University of Cincinnati basketball program is waiting for the NCAA to rule on the amateur status of a 6-foot-10, 230-pound post player who could give the Bearcats added depth along their front line.
Adam Hrycaniuk, a native of Poland who averaged 11.8 points and 7.2 rebounds last year at Trinity Valley (Tex.) Community College, has been enrolled at UC since August and expects to be part of the Bearcat program this season.

There are rumors he could be facing a 5-10 game suspension for his play in Europe.

If UC issued the released he's probably been cleared, the Enquirer might just be behind.
I hope so, here's the link: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../308250015

Says it was last updated at 3:12 PM so you would hope it was current as of that time.
as of 3:00, Trent said:

"When I talked to Mick this afternoon, he said they still hadn't heard from the NCAA about Hrycaniuk's eligibility. I've been calling him since then and don't know if they've heard anything, but I don't think so."

still pending it sounds like -

but when was the last time we had 2 6'10" REAL players on the team?

Perhaps I was a bit hasty. From the release it sounded like he was cleared to play.

I agree ; the situation on his playing status does not seem to have changed. Maybe the school needs to name him officially to the team before the quarter starts for aid purposes.

Trent on his blog said that the Vaughn(Harmony) story is just a rumor and he would not put much into it right now.
My source has confirmed that Vaughn will be fine. Someone else from Harmony may have ae eligibility issue but it has nothing to do with UC or Vaughn

good news

Paigers, what does your source say about UC FB recruit Oren Wilson..?

I think that makes 3 (Abdul and the 2 newbies) But no doubt, Brent. UC hasn't had real size and depth in the post since....I guess since 2000 when they could bring in Martin, Tate, Fletch and then Little and Grove for mop up duty. Plus DJ for some finess w/ size.

Hope the new guys have the game to go with that height.
I have heard that UC has soured on Oren Wilson. He may not play for UC.

Also hearing that it is looking good for UC with Darquavius (sp) Tucker.

Thanks

Yep. 2000 is what I have too. 2004 would have had four big bodies had Whaley dislodged his head, but, not to be.
Latest from Trent's blog, I sure am not counting Adam in the fold as of yet considering how the NCAA chooses to operate in these matters, particularly when the Bearcats are involved it seems.

Quote:Just got off the phone with Mick.

There is no new word from the NCAA. They are still trying to determine Hrycaniuk's amatuer status. Basically it came down to Mick getting sick of people asking about him and it not being offially released.

Hrycaniuk is already in school and they hope to get everything cleared up with the NCAA soon -- but as Bearcat fans know as well as anyone that is never as quick, easy and clear-cut as it should be.

Yet again, we'll be waiting on NCAA word, and who knows if we'll hear in time, even though UC turned in the paperwork to the NCAA months ago.

Last season it was Abdul Herrera, the season before it was Vincent Banks -- everyone's hoping there are different outcomes than those two.
Oren Wilson will not be a Bearcat.
