When we get off to a decent start, we usually have a good chance to win.
It's when we get shellshocked from the beginning, and get way behind before we get warmed up, we get clobbered, like at ASU.

It might be a good strategy on the road if the home team gets the crowd into the game after even a minute or so with a dunk or steal for an easy basket, or whatever, you call time out. You don't wait until they go on a ten or fifteen point run. Stop the bleeding before it starts. Don't let the momentum continue to where you're out of the game before it begins.
And contrary to my usual preferred strategy, I would try and run a lot of clock, especially on the first two or three possessions. Settle down and make USA play defense. And don't try and force passes inside to where they can intercept and you don't even get a shot on the possession. Make safe passes and maybe try and get D'Vonte or someone to slash to the basket and try and draw a foul or make a three point play. Once you've settled down, then you can go to a more aggressive game plan.04-cheers
Letting teams go on runs is always a problem with this group.

The coach can put a stop to that if he acts quickly. Four point run early, you call time out. You just can't go down 10 or more points right away, especially on the road. And we've allowed that to happen too many times.
I recall the Wright State game on the road a few years ago. We got down 18-0 if I recall before we called a timeout. That's just bad. You can't allow that to happen.04-cheers

Who was the coach? Couldn't have been Shields. You said he wasn't the problem here, that he was a good coach, but that our problem was recruiting.

I'm afraid not having James will be a killer today. Hasn't made a difference in the previous 3 games he missed.

Even good coaches make mistakes. Hopefully they learn from them.04-cheers
It's not just the coaches. The seniors have to take the game in hand and right the ship on the court.

Don't think I've ever seen a team run off 18 unanswered points to start a game before the coach called a time out, even in junior high. And that's what you call a good coach? If I was a supporter of a coach that did that, I don't think I would post it for everyone to see. I'd consider that embarrassing. If I knew that back then, I must have forgotten about it.
