Many posters know my personal position regarding the green. (it''s pro for the newbs)

Does toking finally gain acceptance relative to alcohol?

I am not trying to turn this into a moral thread, so please try guys.

I'm interested in seeing how most posters feel since our conference mostly includes states that haven't turned the corner. (maybe none...haven't looked)

I'm almost certain this will turn into a cf, but I'm gonna give it shot and throw it out there..
Good thread for the political board
They should let them smoke as much as they want. This is stupid. These are human beings smashing their bodies into each other every week (and that does not even include practices) to make a living. Of course these guys are going to have lingering injuries and whatnot. If people need to smoke some weed to be able to take the pain the let them have at it.

Mind you now I don't even use drugs and I only drink a beer every once in a while.

but it's related to football and will impact college at some point.....but okay 04-cheers

there was never a mention of politics....morality yes, but not politics.....even though some find them to be synonymous

without even seeing what is sure to follow....kudos!
The best part is why marijuana was made illegal in the 1930s in the first place. Smoking it had nothing to do with it. That was just the propaganda used by the textile special interest that had inferior products that couldn't compete with the vast amount of marijuana byproducts. Oh and medicinal marijuana can be given in a pill form to for those that are still living in the 20th Century and for whatever reason have an issue with a plant that is safer than many legal and readily available drugs like caffeine, ibuprofen, nicotine, accetemenephen (sp?), alchohol, and a host of others that can and will kill you if taken in excess.
I don't care who smokes pot

knew it....and you're right...

is it possible for a thread to stay on topic?

I think that people should be allowed to do what they want. The notion that a man who gets the crap beat out of him for our amusement would get criticized or penalized for wanting to smoke a joint afterwards really offends me.

. . . as long as we tax the hell out of it!
It may bring Ricky Williams out of retirement.
To totally derail the thread: why does the government feel the need to tell people what they can and cannot put into their own bodies?
They smoke. We smoke. Everyone smokes.

just like draanking bro 03-wink

that attitude is why no goodbar has to make it a line item....they only shoot at toes if the NFL goes hard line stance

what is really cracking me up about this.....they keep quoting "research" and "medicinal".....it's an 'E' selection.....none of the above.....it's really all about the chillin' 03-wink

gotta love the media spin.......

No, everyone does not smoke. It just makes potheads feel better about themselves to pretend that everyone is as weak as they are. The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of us are not pot smokers. That being said, I don't care if you smoke pot or not. Pot is as good a crutch as alcohol is. Everyone should be free to self medicate themselves in any way they want. Facing reality everyday is tough for some people.

of course they don't....you so whiffed the topic and his point.....a whiff might help you out....

the topic is about how the NFL now has to deal with the green gaining acceptance.....not about how a right winger flies

his comment involves reading between the lines with a sense of humor....is a concept many whiff....oh well.....puff puff punt

that's actually relevant....is one reason the NFL is addressing this issue.....the gov't ISN"T stepping on the states toes....not yet anyway.....it would be a waste of resources for something that isn't going away.....just like prohibition.....

the NFL has to take this stance at this point or suspend a large majority of players....the NFL is also saving face with the "medicinal" part of the equation....

IMO, this is bigger than many people realize....if the NFL, the most popular sport in America says, "okay", it changes the perception completely....especially how kids will view it....this is a monster step.
I can't imagine anyone, who's played football more than a couple years outside of high school, couldn't legitimately qualify for a medical pass for weed. Maybe a place kicker, but even punters get knocked on their ass fairly often or steamrolled trying to tackle a returner. That being the case, I don't see how a NFL policy could contradict a legal license to toke, at least where it's legal within a state.

However, no one says a school or an NFL franchise has to sign a player. And if it's in the contract that they can't use, then they can lose their job or scholly for using and there's not much that could be done about that.

"Sign this or you don't play." That's all they need to do to prevent it. So really it's going to end up being at the discretion of the individual teams or schools. Even if it's legal it can be disallowed. I'm sure more than one player has been kicked off a team for alcohol abuse, which is perfectly legal provided the player is of age.

I'm watching the Prohibition documentary on Netflix right now.....history continues to show us that time is merely an illusion of thinking....today is finally the beginning for marijauna....once the conservatives again get shut down due to narrow minded thinking, the facts and research will actually be allowed to be disseminated. This puts the NFL in position of responsibility.

It's no different than what the tobacco and alcohol industries has been forced to do with one exception....the NFL isn't the manufacturer.

I actually believe this a hyper smart preemptive move on the part of the NFL....the issue isn't going away.....education at the earliest of ages seems to always be more beneficial than a prohibitive movement....as much as I dislike no goodbar, this is the right move in my mind.

One thing I learned very early in life....don't tell me not to just b/c of bs rhetoric. Facts and education allow better decisions to be made.
