First -- attaboy SB. Monarch fans appreciate your loyalty and look forward to cheering for you on many Saturdays (and Thursdays) to come.

Second -- What drove you to ask that question? Of course ODU and ECU are rivals. I saw nothing in Harry's article to indicate otherwise.
It's good to hear that Shuler's commitment is solid. Seems like a rough recruiting year for ECU. I think our class is actually rated a little higher.
Thank u sb. You are a monarch who brings good values to our team. Ecu karma. Well let u know when u get kissed by it.
This is a perfect example of what ECU posters were talking about when we were being considered for CUSA. They were afraid that ODU would compete with them for recruits. We are...and winning!
Those sonofa .................... I guess their recruiting strategy is to try to take all of our recruits at the last minute.

Glad we have a group that committed and stay committed and true to their word.

Before VT was in the ACC they were rivals of UVA... It seems to me that both Marshall and ECU will be our "hated Rival". Sure beats JMU.
While UVA and Tech will attached the most attention, it will be many years before our recruiting matches their teams... But it will come.

I would add Charlotte to that list. Marshall and Charlotte will become natural C-USA rivals for the foreseeable future, and ECU will become a natural OOC rival with time. Early recruiting wars such as this will ensure the rivalry jells.
It's worst than cold calling and trying to sell you vinyl siding and you own a brick home.

Very excited about this group of Monarch.

Shuler Bentley spurns recruiting overture from ECU

Quarterback Shuler Bentley, considered the key member of Old Dominion’s 28-player recruiting class, turned down a late recruiting press from East Carolina Thursday morning.

Bentley, the 2012 and 2013 Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina, said an ECU assistant coach called and asked him if he would visit Greenville, N.C. this weekend. “He asked if I would be interested in coming for a visit if I knew an offer was on the table,” Bentley said. “I said I can’t do that, that I’m committed to Old Dominion.”

Bentley took his official visit to ODU last weekend with his parents and said he had a great time. He is seen as the heir apparent for ODU quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who was his host last weekend. He said he bonded with Heinicke, as well as the other players who visited.

It was a great visit,” he said. “It was just what I expected. It was fun. “There were a lot of guys there who have already committed. To spend time with the guys I’m going to spend the next four or five years with, that was great. We hit it off perfectly We have a good relationship with each other. I had a blast."

Bentley said he will sign with ODU on Wednesday, Feb. 5, the national signing day.

I think all of Monarch Nation is proud of this fantastic young man with a great family that has demonstrated class, loyalty and integrity. He is a true leader and I look forward to what will be an astonishing career for Mr. Bentley.

ECU getting smacked around by MTSU tonight. The pirates looking for their first conference win...03-lmfao
Unfortunately, they are not the only ones getting smacked around.

Yep, although I like the way they battled back. Unfortunately we face the same Blue Raiders team on Sat. that took care of the Pirates tonight. I hope the Monarchs come out more focused and disciplined in the next game.

GO MONARCHS!

So by that logic we are rivals with Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Florida, etc...

We're much closer to being rivals with ECU than you guys are to being rivals with Alabama. We already own you in BB and are winning some recruiting battles with you in FB. It's not a stretch to see us catching you in short order.

If we continue to recruit on the level that we are, it will take us three or four years to catch up with ECU in talent. We have a long ways to go in regards to fan base and program reputation. ODU needs to win some bowl games and beat quality FBS programs to get there.
I've yet to see a ODU commit that really stood out to me. I'll admit The NJ guy is decent Lowe, is decent. Anyone could throw 80 TDs at Byrnes, not sure why the staff wanted him.

P.S. I know y'all are new to this, but most teams finish their games.
Touche on the last comment Dowdy. As for the other I think you are discounting Mr. Shuler's abilities because he turned down a last ditch effort by ECU's staff. Must be humbling to be told by a 2x player of the year that he would rather play for a "start up" program versus the well established ECU Pirates.
