i would think this would be the guy in charge of getting the QB and receivers on the same page. Run correct routes, timing, and line up in the friggen correct spot on every play.
He also looks at game tapes and learns specifically what his WR's are good at and what the opponents suck at covering.

This new title may indicate that modern offensive planning has surpassed the ability of a single OC to keep on top of it all. The "passing game coordinator" may be responsible for which linemen and backs fit particular passing plays as well as which WRs are best for which plays. As defensive plays become more complicated as well, we may see some juggling of responsibilities on that side of the ball as well.
