I certainly hope that is a joke. Arkansas has won the Indoor National Championship only 20 times in the last 30 years...

Uh, yes, it was a joke.
How did NIU's Mens Track Team do this week, oh yea, they lost, to TITLE IX!
I wonder just how far the talent differential is between Ar-Kansas and an Akron? With no disrepect implied, it's got to be huge.

You are the master of understatement. The MAC used to be a national power in track. Really. BG, Kent and Easter in particular. I've posted this before but during my four years MAC teams had athletes who would win 3 Olympic Golds, several NCAA titles and had at least 9 Olympians that come to mind.

They lost to football.
Kent women remain at #16. Akron Women move up 8 positions to #20. Akron hit the top 25 for the first time this season moving up 11 slots to #21. Shaun Barber (Akron Soph) currently has top 2014 national NCAA pole vault height. Akron's move up on both sides places the MAC in to the top 10 conferences for both men and women's indoor track.

Press release at http://bit.ly/1iMsF4g

(Note: This is a different poll than quoted earlier in this thread but this one has much more cred in my opinion in the T&F fraternity)

Yep, I remember the days when Bob Parks had a powerhouse in Ypsilanti and as suggested some of our (and others from other MAC schools) athletes did well at the summer Olympics.
