There may be a lot of towel waving in Jonesboro this fall.
Burn the rule books!
I just saw that on rivals main board and was coming to post it here. He s a heck of a recruiter but has been know to bend the rule books a time or two.
A long time ago, (well after Freeze left, so I guess that's two years ago or something) There were fans on our board wanting him as HC.

He's a heck of a recruiter, provided he stays within the rules.
NCAA violations coming to a school near you?

This finalizes the ASU coaching Staff.

Previous coaching job in parenthesis

HC: Blake Anderson (OC North Carolina)
OC/QB/Asst HC Walt Bell (Recruiting Coordinator/TE, North Carolina
WR/ST Luke Paschal (Quality Control, North Carolina)
TE: Keith Heckendorf (Quality Control, UNC)
OL: Glenn Elarbee (OL Houston)

DC/LB: Joe Cauthen (DL MTSU)
DL: Brian Early (Quality Control Arkansas)
CB: Trooper Taylor (WR Auburn)
S: Allen Johnson (Defensive Coordinator, Lamar)

Heckendorf was the OC at Western Carolina before moving to UNC. Early was the DL Coach at UCA for a few years, and is a former High School coach in Arkansas, and you pretty much have to hire a former Arkansas High School Coach if you plan to recruit here now days.

Auburn's issues was supposedly recruits being paid by boosters. We have a 17 million dollar athletic budget and few big money boosters. Who on earth are we going to convince to pay players?

For the record, Trooper has never been accused of wrongdoing by the NCAA. Hugh Freeze has committed more NCAA violations in his time as a coach.

We've had to vacate wins before due to incompetent, yet innocent paperwork errors. Boise got in pretty bad trouble for "Couch-gate".

We don't have to pay players at our level to get in deep trouble.

I really dont know much about him. My boss and her husband are both Auburn grads and big boosters and they were happier for Trooper to be gone than Chizik. They said the talk around AU was that Trooper was trouble waiting to happen. Other than their info I know nothing about him.

True, but those were for grades. I really don't see this as too big of a risk. If he stinks, we simply dump him at the end of the season.
Helluva coaching staff...period. Awesome job by Terry Mohajir.
...

If someone could just get him jacked up a little bit,
so he wouldn't be so introverted.
Can stand Trooper. IMO at Auburn (besides the violations) he tried to hard to be "one of the guys/players." Always looked like he was trying to be "friends."

I've got news for you. When you "get down on their level" there goes discipline out the window. Along with it goes respect for OTHER coaches on the staff (cause they ain't cool like Trooper). Then come the in class and off-field issues (more so than normal.) All that impacts how players develop on the field, and the boom, all of a sudden you're Gene Chizik.

stAte, do yourself a favor and make this clown the equipment manager.

Think fans of the other SBC teams are going to be accusing him of all kinds of skullduggery when it comes to recruiting, going forward.

That ASU has had so much success recruiting Alabama, and with the success they have had with GoDaddy.com Bowl, makes this a great hire, that will have an immediate impact on recruiting.
Taylor is a MONSTER recruiter

That he is, but see my previous post. It's detrimental (ultimately) to the team to have someone so buddy-buddy as a coach.

Honestly, if you and your position coach tight, jumping up into each other doing chest bumps, doing manly arm-locks, and activating the hype-machine, when it comes time for that coach to get after your a$$ in practice or a game for messing up your technique/route/assignment/block/whatever, how seriously do you think the player takes that coach?

The answer is 'not very.' It's all good because Trooper is my homie/boi/pal/friend.

I'm not one to be upset by another school's recruiting as long as our coaches are getting the best recruits on their board. stAte has been recruiting AL for a while, so that's a given. It is what it is...Much respect to Terry for always moving things forward.

Thanks for the advice. You are making me regret the nice things I said about our former coaches that you guys hired.

Whatever man. I'm just saying the player-coach relationship should be as professional as possible. IMO the way he conducts himself on the sidle is not good for any team, and it is infectious to other players.

I want stAte to be competitive and have a great staff. I just don't think his skills as a recruiter are ultimately worth the negative things he brings to the table.
Players love him and most teams have energetic guys like that on staff. Under Freeze we had a coach who jumped on piles in practice and was nuts. That stuff is not even a mild concern.

As for the other stuff, you have to be crazy to think that Trooper Taylor is any different than other coaches at the SEC level. Auburn, Bama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tenn.... you name the school, they have been doing things under the table for decades to compete with one another. Some are better at it than others and some are such big money makers that the NCAA won't touch them. Does anyone really believe that an assistant coach went into Auburn in 2009 and set up a system of enticing players with booster "incentives"? Does anyone really believe that Chizik and Malzahn weren't completely aware and onboard just as Saban, Carroll, Chip Kelly, Jim Tressell? Come on, man!

Recruiting is important and you need guys who can build relationships with recruits, coaches and players.
