Sounds like there will be serious competition for the starting QB role. Competition tends to bring out the best in most...hopefully all 3 progress and improve over the coming months.

Campbell needs to hire guys that can hit the ground running. The d coordinator hire could make break Campbell. We've recruited defensively to fit Tuke's scheme...bigger DB's etc. I wonder if Campbell is looking at guys who have a similar defensive philosophy? I just hope we can find someone to teach our db's to jam the receiver and look for the ball. Please no more 10 yd cushions.
I have no idea who Campbell is looking at for DC. I would like to see someone on the staff with a little more experience and seasoning. During the Go Daddy Bowl, they mentioned how Arkansas St's DC was going to be out of a job. He was the DC at stAte the last 2 years, and was the interim HC in the Go Daddy Bowl victories over Kent St & Ball St. Just a thought.

I too have absolutely no idea whatsoever who Campbell is looking at for DC. However, given his propensity to hire people he already knows, I am going to make a totally wild guess and throw out the name Alex Grinch who has been Pinkel's safeties coach for the past 4 years at Missouri as a potential candidate. Grinch is Mount Union graduate, class of 2002 (same as Campbell), and played with Campbell there.

I also have absolutely no idea what kind of hire this would be in the long run, but I suspect it would give the Rockets some help in planning for Missouri next year.
Alabama and Florida St were top 2 ranked defenses this past season...I wonder if we can steal one of their graduate assistants for the DC job 02-13-banana[/i]
The weakness of a young head coach. He does not have enough experienced peers to build a decent staff

Go to the all star games and interview some folks with experience

The last thing we need is a 25 year old DC with no coaching experience! A GA is nowhere near ready to be a DC at any D1 program, no matter what program he came from. All they do is cut up films all day.

After watching crappy defenses year after year since Stutz was DC, I'm willing to go outside the box
There are plenty of experienced, and good, DC's who are out of a job because a new HC came in and brought his own staff. Campbell needs someone in his 50's who can actually be a mentor to him. Too many young coaches who don't know what they're doing.
This QB competition is going to be real interesting. All these guys are very talented. I'm wondering if Mancz gets moved to center.
We'll get to observe Coach Campbell's learning curve over the next few weeks based on his hires and how the staff closes out the recruiting class. I don't know how disappointed he was about losing to Akron but I'm glad he was disappointed with missing a bowl game. It reads as if he isn't going to let that sort of thing happen again. As for qb, whoever he is this year, he better be for the next three at least and hopefully he can run the offense without looking over to the sidelines to figure out what to do. I was really hoping Owens would be more in control of the offense. Maybe he just wasn't able. I do know he learned to take off some of the pepper from his passes although it sometimes caused his passes to float. Still, his completion percentage should've been higher but there were many dropped passes.
I think the defense will be better next year particularly the defensive front and linebacking corps. The question is the defensive backfield.
The question on the offensive side will be the receiving corps. Long snapper has huge shoes to fill.
Was told the other night that Long Snapper, Stone Monarch has left the team. Good kid wish him luck, We continue to lose special teams walk on players that were high prospects, Stone played at CC in Detroit and won a couple state titles. [/b]
Another thing that will improve the defense: An improved offense.
nice article
give us ely!!!

Interesting given the position is open with the graduation of Matt Wall. Wonder what the back story is in this case.
I think it would be nice if we could get an older, experienced DC. Perhaps someone that doesn't want to be in the limelight, but wants to come in and help us get back on track for the last stretch of their career. Don't get me wrong, I love the youth and exuberance of our coaching staff and we did make some improvements defensively over the last couple years. But, I think this type of hire would bring some balance, seasoning, and some old school discipline that our defense seems to lack at times.

Personally, I think the offense is good hands, we just need a QB to step up and take us to the next level. TO and Dantin played well at times, but I am hoping for someone that has true NFL scout type of talent. With the four prospects we have, my guess is that one of them could fit this bill, if developed properly.

Great comment Jeff. Learning Curve.
These two words are the key words any Rocket Football Fan needs to realize.
Toledo Mike and Jeff are all over what is required to move ahead as a football program.
Experience.
Lets see if Coach Matt sees the color grey, meaning a coach of experience.
I've seen enough of our DB's looking lost.
Too much potential has been under utilized.
