Full Version: I'm coming to the conclusion that this team is better than the sum of it's parts.

I see other teams with quicker players overall, many who can get off and make three point shots better than we usually do, yet we beat some of those teams. I think the reason is that this is the most unselfish team we've seen during the Steve Shields era. Everyone plays hard and fills their role. Will looks like he's not doing much, and when the totals are in, he'll have double figures in scoring and rebounding. Gus doesn't look sharp, but he can bang around and give you toughness inside. D'Vonte runs the team and does what is necessary to win. James White still makes some mistakes, but he still is scoring in double figures and rebounds and blocks shots and is getting better and better.

Josh didn't play tonight, but he's a valuable player for us because he can create his own shots and make them. Even the bench does some good things, but some things don't show up on the stat sheet. Leroy plays ferocious defense and scores some. He does some of the dirty work.
Individually, we're not as talented as some teams, but the parts seem to fit together so that things end up working out smoothly. We're not going to win every game, but as others have said, Steve's teams never quit.
Got to give the coach some credit for that.04-cheers

Before I got to your last line, I was going to ask if you are saying we are well-coached. Sounds like you answered that. It's the coaches that turn individual parts into a "team".

I have never said we weren't well coached. But you can be well coached and still not achieve what some think should be accomplished. And do I agree with every decision Steve makes? Of course not, but I would disagree with any coach on something. That's how fans are. We only see the surface, but the coach knows things that are going on behind the scenes that we don't. Steve's teams have always played hard. Even his most fervent critics agree with that in their posts. I'm just enjoying this team come together. I don't know how we'll end up, but we're doing well right now, so I'm just taking one game at a time. I know as soon as we lose a conference game, the "Fire Steve" posts will start again, but that's just part of the game. Looking forward to the games Saturday against Troy. Hopefully they got all those three's out of their system against ASU04-cheers
I think the kids are listening this year.
