We have a very limited budget and for recruiting this is awful. UAB needs a coach now and apparently the current staff has not done much recruiting lately. Hire Niblett from Hoover. He knows the high school players in the state. We should play some if not all our games in Hoover are if possible Regions Downtown. We can afford Neblett and we need recruits if we played in Hoover our crowds would be larger. Would I love to hire someone else. Definitely, but we cannot afford that. He can't be worse than Callaway.

Niblett is a high character guy, and a winner.
I'd be okay with the hire. I would not be okay with moving the games to Hoover.
The only thing more humiliating than your coach willingly taking a demotion to get away from you is replacing him with a high school coach.

Are we trying to see how low we can push the program.

High school is not college. Unless a high school coach has a lot of college coaching experience, it would be a huge joke to hire a high school coach.

In high school and one that has every competitive advantage
I'd rather stay at Legion Field than play at the Met.

+1

Also, some of the people on here act like we can't afford anybody. McGee was making more than a lot of other head coaches around the country, so it's not true. Also, our DC was one of the top paid assistants in CUSA, maybe THE top.

We can afford a quality coach. We just need some good timing and maybe a little luck.
+1 to the last two posts. The sky is not falling, and we get to hit the reset button.
Been to several high school FB games at the Met. I like the Met. Enjoyed watching high schools play there. It is not D1. Not even close. UAB cannot play at the Met.
There are plenty of coaches that would crawl to Birmingham for a HC job. I just wonder if the next coach gets some of the same dumb ass questions from radio and tv media? lol
I can hear Jeff Speegle now, "Wouldn't you rather have been on Nick Saban's staff?"
Depends on whether he's black or not. Although "Why were you stupid enough to agree to be the head coach at UAB" is a multiracial question...

WHAT?
What yourself.

The subject being referred to was some of the stupid and classless things that McGee was asked at the news conference when he was first hired.

The "Why were you stupid..." was an acknowledgement of just how bad things are here at the moment, and the multiracial part referred to it being something that could be asked of a new hire of any race.

If you are somehow trying to imply that I'm racist, you are utterly clueless.
I think he was implying that he didn't know what you were talking about. I remember some stupid race related question being asked of mcgre, but don't recall the specifics
Couldn't tell... the "WHAT?" felt more outraged than interrogative. What was it, "How does it feel to be the first black head coach at a major college in Alabama?", something like that. The man was black, that's simple fact, and he had moved up to a head coaching job with all that entails. He was very impressive in that presser.
Speegle asked McGee how long he wanted to be a black head coach.

I ask "WHAT" and you leap to me implying you are a racist, smh. It was a dumb statement so I asked "what" which implies a question and not a statement.
Then I apologize for jumping to conclusions. I need to get off the board for a while, I'm getting testy.

And frankly I'm not entirely certain that it's a dumb question for someone to ask *himself* before he takes the job. The deficit side of the ledger is very large when you look at the pluses and minuses of the UAB HC job as things stand.
What would you do?
