They didn't call them on MSU point guard last night either. Must be a Michigan rule!
Important early wake-up call for this team. Good news is nobody is going to go undefeated in the MAC. Not to take away from the 12-1 start but we didn't really play many good teams. Defense particularly on the perimeter needs to improve. Surprised to see Western handle us so easily though. But at the end of the season we really just need a Rocket team that can win a handful of games in the MAC tournament more than a regular season title.
Shooting bricks from beyond the arc
Rockets lose 87-76.

We seemed to be sleepwalking much of the game, especially on D. We're not gonna be able to do those 11-0 15-4 type runs that got us back against BC and Detroit. Especially on the road. Not a bad WMU team but one we should beat. We didn't. Got to regroup.

Since when is it a blocking foul?

And BC and Detroit don't really look all that good anymore. I was looking forward to a rocking Savage Arena for Saturdays game but my guess is attendance just got cut by about a third after this disappointing loss...maybe 4200 will be there is my estimate.
I hope it serves as a wakeup call. I am very disappointed by the flat start and sloppy play. WMU is not a bad team for sure...but we don't look like the same team that played at Kansas or the team I saw beat Coppin State in person. 5-22 from three point land and very poor movement of the ball.
It was always going to come down to the Tourney in Cleveland in March anyway. Hopefully lessons will be learned from the loss and they can improve and move on from here.

At least this loss may put a damper on any wishful thinking (by the fans, not the team) about an "at large" bid which was not going to happen anyway.

Agreed. We have a good team but not one that is likely to finish 29-2 or some gaudy record like that which would push the at large talk. The MAC will be brutal, and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose 3 or 4 more conference games--and as long as we beat Western in the re-match we may still get a division title.

Coach K finally has us back to winning the games we should be winning--like ALL of those early non-con games (sans maybe the Kansas's, Dukes, etc.). That is a very significant accomplishment--even a milestone in the renovation of our MBB program.

Coach just has to figure out what went wrong tonight and get it fixed. Hopefully the Rockets come back with some swagger after they recover from the b!tch slappin' they took tonight.
The regular season MAC is typically won by the team that best protects it own home court and manages to win/steal a few (the most) games on the road. This year will probably be no different.

Anyway, for all practical purposes the regular season simply serves as a means of seeding teams for the Tournament which is the real prize.

Williams and Pearson both threw up way too fast three pointers with about five minutes left when good ball movement could have gotten us a nice look for two. That's the kind of thing we DIDN'T do in our two big comebacks. But, hey, it's the MAC. We'll get back at it.
As I said before, this team needs to learn how to get "stops" at the defensive end. Way to easy for Western to score in the 1st half. You're going to have nights where it's a struggle to score, especially on the road, but gotta find ways to stop the other team.
They also didn't play with any "sense of urgency" until with about 10 minutes to go in the game. If all 5 guys on the floor would have played more like Lauf throughout the game, we would have won that game. Learn from last night and time to move on.
Get ready for Saturday. Go Rockets!!!!!!!!!

Better skilled and more athletic than Reitz.

It's the only prize in this league as history has shown us...we ain't getting more than one bid.

So unless someone runs the table and loses in the MACC final, it's one team yet again.
I was really disappointed in how the Rockets played yesterday. It's the first time I have seen them this season where they were NOT fun to watch. They looked like the had very little basketball experience. I know all teams have days when they are just cold. It didn't help that the officials - especially in the second half - were calling fouls for breathing, yet they conveniently couldn't seem to spot ANY of the WMU fouls, and there were plenty of them. I had forgotten how terrible MAC officials are. It's pathetic. 03-banghead03-hissyfit01-lauramac203-weeping
I didn't see this coming. How can Weatherspoon be a non factor against these guys. He has tons of athleticism but few skills, scared to handle the ball, gets pushed off low post (lot of guys do), no spin move, no turn and face, no up and under shot or dribble, he doesn't know what to do when he gets the ball. He has been in college for 4 years... no wonder TK said he was raw... but in your 4th year, glad we have him but da... anyway we played selfish, we played with arrogance... thought WMU would cave in. Tk probably wanted to rip them but is afraid to with the coach/player climate these days. Juice disappears and needs to lead more, stop worrying about his shots... he is a shoot first pass second penetrator. Better start moving the ball better and stop settling!

So...just to be clear...

Fouls:
Toledo - 30
WMU - 23

*with Toledo committing 6 fouls in the last 1:51 while playing catch up.
*and did you want to mention the first half when WMU was getting called for "breathing"?
