It was a numbers game and someone had to go or sit for a long time.

I am sure it was a tough choice. Wish him all the best!

Once a Monarch ...

No surprise here.
He had a hard time getting over the top of FCS size D linemen. At the FBS level, with his low trajectory passes, he was looking at having an inordinate number of passes batted down.
He never would have started at ODU. In fact I am not sure he would have even have played at all in our system.

The young man is a fine athlete and likely has a career in baseball anyway.

Good luck to him!
04-cheers
Wish him the best of luck and thanks for giving it a try as a Monarch.

Agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. Good luck, Shane.

Blinn is the same JC that Cam Newton played at after leaving Florida.

I guess this puts all the pressure on David and Shuler to replace Taylor, a humongous task considering how much tougher the opponents will get on a weekly basis.
I'm a bit disappointed. Wish he could've stayed, I'd have liked to see him play on the field at some point. Hopefully Bentley and Washington can pan out, or else we're in trouble after Heinicke is gone.
Good luck to him.

Recruit a bunch of good players at a position and some will transfer. It's part of the game.

was Shane a better prospect coming out of HS than Bently?
Wow. Im really surprised by this considering how highly recruited he was. I thought he had a chance to compete with Bentley for our future starting QB spot. Was sort of expecting he would surpass Washington as the backup and David would switch to a different position. We better hope everything works out well with Bentley now. I would have thought Shane would have at least waited till Spring to make his decision in case an SEC school comes calling for Bentley between now and signing day. Also thought he would stay and play baseball here if nothing else. CUSA has some pretty good baseball team.s
McElroy is supposed to be pretty good as well. He and Washington were battling to be TH's backup.

We should be OK at that position for a while, barring a rash of injuries.
This really sucks. We already know Washington ain't going to pan out so it is actually all on Bentley. Hopefully the nosedive can still be averted.
Best of wishes to Shane McCarley as he heads back to Texas. I really wanted to see him compete for the position with Washington and Bentley and truly hate to see him leave. I must have watched his senior highlights four or five times, and he looked a whole lot like TH, only perhaps a little faster. Whether or not he wound up playing, his being here would have been good for the program as he competed for the position. One possible outcome of his leaving could be that Bentley is unable to redshirt if we have a rash of injuries at QB.

The athletes that ODU recruits ultimately have to make hard decisions based on what is best for themselves. Sometimes what is best for them conflicts with what is best for ODU. I think this is clearly one of those cases. Good luck to you Mr. McCarley.

Nah, Bentley is a 3* while McCarley was a 2*. McCarley was a higher rated recruit than Washington or McElroy and got offers from some of our future CUSA competition.

I don't already know Washington isn't going to pan out.

I just took a look at the list of SEC QB's from top to bottom. Looks like they don't go for the 5'10 prototype like Wilder does. Wilder seems to have a fetish for short QB's. If Bentley goes to an SEC program, he'll be holding a clipboard for 4 years.

So how can you tell that Washington isn't going to pan out? It must be that crystal ball you have in your pocket. I though he did pretty well when given the opportunity to play. Every QB we get from here on won't be a TH. TH is one of a kind.....

Shuler isn't 5'10, he's 6'0. Even still, he is still short for the prototypical SEC offense and likely to ride the pine if headed that route. As for it being a fetish, it's just smart recruiting. He's going after above-average QBs who are being overlooked purely because of their stature. If he was recruiting QBs with prototypical size, 6'3- 6'4, they'd be missing abilities in other areas. Otherwise they wouldn't be going to an FCS and now a CUSA school.

I disagree. I thought he looked quite insufficient and lost in relief.
I thought he looked pretty good most of the time. He was bad in the UNC game, but who wasn't.

I thought he looked pretty good except for the UNC game. But nobody looked good there.
