This is one of the things that really bugs me about Pastner. He never goes after the refs when they make obvious bad calls/no calls. Doesn't work the refs at all during games. I get that he's not going to cuss them up and down, but it seems like he just doesn't care. Just stands there clapping or with his hands on his hips. It's not like the guy never loses his temper because he goes nuts on the sidelines when the players do something he doesn't like. For once I'd love to see him take that anger out on a ref instead of the scorer's table, a laptop, or one of his players.
nice take. I agree
I recall last year at the louisville game some guy in 107 standing up yelling at pastner to "get mad at refs!" He used other words but i vividly remember a fan publicly showing his dislike of pastners lack of anger towards the refs.
There's a fine line between not ever saying anything to Therese's and being a total butt. However, in my games, if a coach is never asking or yelling anything at me, I wonder how much he really cares
I guess he demonstrates his caring and support plenty off the court, but if I'm a recruit and watching the games I'd really wonder how much he supports his players. I think working the refs and showing that neither he nor his players will be shortchanged/pushed around on his watch would go really far in getting the players to play 100%. There were several times Saturday (hard foul on Joe comes to mind) that Pastner getting after the stripes would've inspired our players and fans I think.

Yeah, I mean I don't want him acting like Fran McCaffery or whatever but I'd rather he toe that line and even cross it occasionally
than to never even get close to it.
Dana always had his players backs.

I had this very conversation with my son at the game Sat. Not working the refs is another small way of getting out-coached, which is obviously part of the game. Josh needs work in this area.
If you don't get 2 technicals per season you're not working the refs hard enough.
There's a time when a coach should get one in order to keep his players from getting frustrated whether it's the right or wrong call from the ref

yep, it's a constant process. It doesn't always have to be yelling, sometimes it can be talking and giving your viewpoint. But the 40 minutes of the game you need to have an ongoing conversation with all the refs. It's probably worth 2-3 calls per game, which in turn is worth 4 points.
Perhaps he can make some flash cards for the refs.

Have an assortment, that he can just hold up for the refs to see...

"Bad Call"
"Travelling"
"3-seconds"
"Moron"

yep. There are "message technicals."

There is also an effect on the refs I feel. Refs do not like ejecting head coaches, you almost never see it today. Getting a technical has to subconsciously make a ref think "That guy is really angry, I wonder why" and make them question how they're calling the game.

Anecdotally, there always seems to be a favorable shift in calls after your team gets a T

You would hope that it doesn't help...But in actuality sometimes it does.

Don't forget

"What the heck!"

Pitino has it down to a fine art. We already trail in that game at least 6-0.

it's just human nature, somebody tells you they disagree with what you're doing, you're missing certain types of calls, you are subconsciously going to to focus on the things they're telling you you've missed
I'm sure Josh has never said a word to an official about a call. If anybody watches a game and thinks Josh doesn't care, they must be crazy.

I've seen him yell across the floor to an official and get ignored a bunch. I've never seen him really get in an official's face and I've also rarely seen him talking in close proximity to the official where the official is looking him in the eye and giving him respect
