G Guyn last 8 games combined: 20 pts, 3 assists, 2 steals, 12 turnovers, 12 rebounds in about 128 minutes.

Caupain last 8 games combined: 53 pts, 20 assists, 11 steals, 10 turnovers, 23 rebounds in 166 minutes.

To Mick's credit the minutes have slowly shifted in Troy's favor, but to me it's pretty obvious the Caupain is needed in the game closer to the 30 min/game level. and Kevin Johnson might be our 2nd best PG. IIRC Caupain, Johnson, and Guyn were all recruited as combo's and none a pure 1?

Kevin Johnson's last 8: 43 pts, 6 assists, 5 steals, 5 turnovers, 13 rebounds in 106 min.
I don't think it matters too much who starts. What's more important is who finishes.
Can Guyn be released or waived?

I get that point.. but would still like to see him in the 25-30 min range, 5+ more minutes / game would help.

Absolutely. I think after today that has to happen. He's definitely going to have an awesome career as a Bearcat.

This Freshman class could turn into Mick's best class yet.
Does it matter who starts? Troy is playing most of the minutes anyway. Guyn did make a big three that gave the Cats the lead today and there is going to be game or two where you are going to need him to make a key play. So far what Mick is doing is working.
Caupain was recruited as a pure point. Mick had this one pegged perfectly all along...

We need his defense and experience

Probably in a 10 min / game sub capacity
were 13-2 with Guyn starting. id leave starting 5 as is. just play Caupain more minutes and hell close at games. KJ can take some mins too
I like Troy better, but GG contributed some today, particularly in his specialty, defense. He had some stupid turnovers, but a lot of guys did vs. the Memphis guards. People would have been a little less displeased had the first three attempt, which rimmed out, went.
Guyn 15 minutes, Caupain 19.

I thought it was interesting when Cronin had a Johnson/SK guard combo for awhile.
Maybe I'm in the minority... but I like Caupain defensively more too.

Guyn has no assists in 7 out of his last 8 games, and today 2 TO's 0 assists + steals.

Here's a mick quote on the game:
Bearcats coach Mick Cronin said the key was controlling Memphis point guard and leading scorer Joe Jackson, who had 13 points, but only two after halftime.

"He really initiates everything for them," Cronin said of Jackson. ". Once we stopped him from penetrating, it stopped other guys from getting layups, stopped him from getting baskets, free throws. I thought that was the biggest key."

Coincidence that Caupain played much more in half 2? Also his steals transitioned to layups for JJ and SK
It has been obvious for most of the season.

No brainer at this point.
I think we should keep rolling like we are...Guyn starts but Caupain ends up with more minutes by the time the game is over.
I keep waiting for Guyn to break out, but it is not happening....
I think, he should drive the basket like Parker did last year, but he
keeps laying back and hanging around the outside....... Justin has
turned it on, hopefully Guyn will... We need him to play well...
I think Caupain will be the key to how far this team goes this year. That thought would have worried me to death before the season, but it makes we optimistic for the rest of the season right now.
I don't care if Troy starts, so long as he is playing 25 to 30 minutes a game and every second of crunch time

I agree. If Troy starts and struggles I don't think Guyn off the bench brings the same energy and offensive skills so keep the rotation as is. Guyn defends and maybe that helps set the pace early.

Our early pace has been our biggest problem... against Memphis our first basket didn't happen until Caupain checked into the game, we had 2points 5 minutes into the game. I don't see Guyn as a PG, I think he's a sub 2, he doesn't handle the ball well enough. For his career he now has 54 Turnovers and 46 assists and 32 steals. Caupain, IMO, will be our 3rd best PG, behind Nick Van Exel and Steve Logan.
