(Memphis) A Memphis grandmother is jailed after police say she called 911 because her granddaughter wouldn’t buy her beer.

Around 9 p.m. New Year’s Day, Rosie Pate said she asked her granddaughter to buy her a beer but when her granddaughter refused to go, they got in a fight.

Pate then called 911.

“I told police that’s what me and my granddaughter got to arguing about a coke and a 20-ounce can of beer,” she told WREG.

According to police, she then asked the 911 operator for “assistance getting beer.”

Pate denies that.

“I have lived to be 68 years old and I never dialed no police to bring me beer,” she said.

In fact she didn’t even know she was accused of making the request to police until we showed her the affidavit of the complaint.

“I wouldn’t dare dial 911 to tell the police to bring me some beer. No ma’am.”

Police reported Pate also slapped her granddaughter during the argument at their home in Hickory Hill.

Pate was taken to jail on domestic assault charges, and was also charged with making a non-emergency 911 call.

“That’s a misunderstanding there,” she said.

She will face a judge in Friday morning.
