Full Version: Definitely the most fun and exciting team we have had in years

Don't know how that will translate into wins and losses. But Will is the most skilled big man we have had since Carlos Rogers. James is the most athletic big man, with the most potential, we have had since Carlos Rogers. Devonte may be the most electrifying point guard we have ever had. He moves so fast you would think he would be out of control, and a turnover waiting to happen, but his assist to turnover ratio is outstanding. Josh and Ben are looking like really solid 2 guards, and Leroy is as good a defender as we have had since John Fowler. Still hard to tell how all these pieces will mesh since we have mostly played teams much better or much worse than us. North Florida was the closest we have played to a Sun Belt team- the difference in that one may well have been that they played a game and we hadn't. We'll know more this week. I'd like to think we can beat Texas State, even on their court. UTA will be more of a challenge. Like always, I would take a split on this road trip right now. But a sweep and we would be in great shape starting the conference season.
Let's shoot high - SWEEP! Costs nothing at this point.
Definitely not a typical Shields team, and that probably starts with Will. Any team with Will on it is not likely to be your usual setup.

I have been thinking "sweep" for awhile. But I really don't have much to go on at this point. UTA's 3 and 2 points losses at Texas and at OU, respectively are worrisome. We need to take advantage of the fact that we are playing them between semesters with no students there. Doubt either will have more than 500 in the stands, but I may be surprised.

How can we lose with that lineup? The best players ever to play here. And with Shields coaching them, no way we cannot win the league.
Hey LRT, if we sweep the two Texas Teams this week, will you consider the ASU bus trip on Jan 25th? If we are swept would you consider the ASU bus trip on Jan 25th?

Is that line-up better than ULL, WKU, or USA? I have no idea. I know ULL's point guard is listed as a first round selection in the NBA mock draft and they have a forward averaging a double-double. We don't have a first round NBA draft choice at point guard, but I'm not sure i would trade Will or James for their big guy. I think we will have a very solid Sun Belt team. That's all I can ask for as a fan. Now the players will have to go out and win games on the court. As folks have been saying all year, there is not much difference between the best team and the 6th place team in this league. I now tend to believe we go 7 deep with UTA looking pretty good. We'll no more late Saturday night.

We have friends in Jonesboro(in fact, he's a former LRU Trojan '64-'67)who we always see and visit with when we play there.
Well, let's glance at the Belt stats and see what we can learn. Not comparing apples to apples, but at this point it should indicate something.

Only 4 Belt teams have winning records.

2nd in FT%
1st in Defensive Rebounds
Outside of that we are middle-of-the-pack or worse.

Neighbour (of all people) is 3rd in steals.
No one else is in the top three of any category.

Will is in the Top Ten in scoring, rebounding, FG%, steals, and 3PT%.

Hard to know what these stats mean until we have played a few conference games. One game against Champion Baptist can really skew a teams stats. Before last nights game we had played 4 RPI Top 40 teams (Florida, Memphis, OU, and USM). That skews our stats in the negative direction. On the other hand, we have played 2 DII schools and a bad Grambling team which helps our stats. So who knows what they really mean at this point.
One good thing is that we have at least three really good options from the arc. When you live by the 3 you die by it, but at least we have more bullets in our guns this year, Barney.
I have said ll along that the talent is here to win and the belt is down this year.

Also, i have said from day one that ull was top 2 in the league.
