Interesting read on one post on the NIU board. Page 96 or so.
In essence saying how futile rooting for sports is because everyone but one ends up with a loss. And in NIU's case two with the last in an inferior bowl.
He laments he wasted all this energy on sports, college football in particular when there is so much more that's important in life. Will still be season ticket holder, root on the boys, but wont take this stuff so seriously. Missing out on too much that is really meaningful and important.

I can see that, so many people were so excited about the RTB and great recruiting class that the excitement permeated into the power company and they didn't properly prepare for the storm.

I thought NIU was off it's game -- yes. I think Sims their FG kicker exemplified that. However, it's not a "out of nowhere" performance. NIU's offense is stoppable by good D. And Utah State is basically a replica of Bowling Green.
NIU's O was a bit less than expected.
NIU's D was a lot better than expected.
They didn't impress me when playing WMU. They seemed like an 8-4 team, not an undefeated team heading to the BCS. But if it was just that one game, that'll happen (look at MSU playing WMU in 1st game). But NIU having to come back in 2nd halves against decent or even not-so-decent competition -- where their D would wake up and play strong, etc., or their O would find rhythm -- that's a ticking time bomb to lose some games if you've dodged bullets already.
All in all, a part of me knew very well that NIU could lose that game. The surprising thing is if their D happened to step up like they did, I would have thought NIU would definitely win. That's the most disappointing aspect of it all. Hurts Lynch and the overall view of NIU during the year, and the MAC. Bowling Green losing to Pitt didn't help, and Ohio's comeback then collapse didn't either, and same goes for Buffalo getting blown out.
Ball State is most likely going to win. I give that 75% chance for Ball State. At least the conference will have ONE win in bowls.
Is it any surprise that the MAC is getting it handed to them? It's not a good conference. NIU is finding out "the hard way" that opponents outside of the MAC aren't going to let their fat QB run around all day on them. This guy was third in the Heisman? Tells you how legit the Heisman is.
