From the article:

4. Shabazz Napier (Connecticut)
Why he's here
: Napier struggled in a loss to Stanford and passed on the chance to take a game-winning shot. That was disappointing. But averages of 15.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists for a top-15 team are enough to keep him in the top five of these rankings.

9. Russ Smith (Louisville)
Why he's here
: Smith is leading the Cardinals in both points per game (16.8) and assists per game (5.0) while shooting a career-high 45.3 percent from the field. Add that to the fact that he plays for the reigning national champs, and he belongs on this list.

I'd put Joe Jackson up there with those two.
Pitino is calling Smith the best College Basketball player in the Nation. All I will say he is even better then last year...for myself it is hard to go against Marcus Smart @ Oklahoma State or Jabari Parker @ Duke.

He is good....very good....going to be very interesting between him and Chris Jones...but really, as good as Chris Jones is I am much more of a Terry Rozier guy...extremely talented Freshman.

Joe is struggling from beyond the arc this season but might have the best first step in the country. I have a feeling he'll be matched up on Russ and Geron Johnson/ Dixon will be on Jones.

Right now Chris Jones isn't starting...it Rozier as of right now...his game remind me so much of Rajon Rondo especially getting rebounds from the PG position.

Wow! Our backcourt has looked pretty good this season. I hope they put it together from outside.
ESPN.com John Wooden Award Watch List:

1. Jabari Parker, Duke: The reason Parker fell so low in past editions of the Watch had a lot more to do with Duke’s struggles: its inability to defend, its close calls against inferior opponents, its lack of quality wins, etc. And some of those qualifications still apply. But Parker has been so good on the offensive end -- so clearly the most dangerous and entertaining player in the country -- that it’s silly to penalize him for the rest of it. (He’s also a heck of a defensive rebounder and a pretty good defender, too.)

3. Russ Smith, Louisville: After a couple weeks of quietly and tidily handling inferior opponents, Smith and the defending champs get a big-time showcase at Kentucky on Saturday. Let’s see how far they’ve come.

6. Shabazz Napier, Connecticut: Napier is one of the most well-rounded guards in the country, a great passer, an even better ball handler, and a timely and often lights-out perimeter shooter and scorer. But if his team slips here and there, as it did last week at home to Stanford, his chances of winning the Wooden go with them.
