I spent 1 night in memphis:

Beale St/Rendezvous/zoo/one more place that has left my brain... lordy gettin' old!
Hope you had a good trip, JD.
oh forgot a trip to the Peabody!
While Memphis wouldn't be a vacation choice, it really is a great place to explore if you're in town for an event or something. Downtown has really improved over the years. Hope you had a good time.

Memphis is actually a vacation choice for a lot of people. When I was in college I worked at a hotel and you'd be surprised at how many Europeans and Australians include Memphis in their itinerary when they visit the US.

LOTS of people take vacations to places like Memphis, New Orleans, etc

Great music, great food, great fun...
I had in-laws in town right before Christmas. We took them to the Peabody and ate lunch at the new Central BBQ down near South Main. On the way back home they wanted to stop by Sun Studio. There was a family of 6 in there and it sounded like they were speaking German.

When you're in Europe and mention that you're from Memphis, there's always a positive and and sometimes lengthy conversation that follows. I'm sure that US visitors from Liverpool/Merseyside have the same experience.

Memphis music is still very well received in most European circles.
