The only game we have lost that I thought we should have won was North Florida, and that was the first game of the year. But we should have won it. Other than that we won all the games where I thought we should have been favored. Florida was #10 when we played them, and we were tied at the half. Memphis was #15, and we were tied with six minutes left. Southern Miss is currently the 2nd rated team in a conference rated slightly better than ours.

OK, I wish we had beaten Tulsa at their place, but I did not expect to, not at their place. I wish we could have beaten SoMiss, but I did not expect to.

Conference is what counts. I have seen nothing that makes me think we will be at the top of the conference, but nothing that makes me think we cannot be, either. (Of course, I have not seen us play in person yet.)

I have and agree with your entire analysis.

I've thought that for over twenty years and counting.04-cheers
The problem is that we had hoped this might be one of those special teams, and it obviously is not that, at least yet. But the '86 team had a start at least this bad.

So you're telling us we might beat Notre Dame in the NCAA this year? "Lord O' Mike Newell". " Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits Pappy." "Save your Confederate money, the South will rise again". Thankfully I'm running out of quotes to express my glee that we could be a replica of our '86 team. Maybe there is joy in Mudville after all! O.K. I admit it. I've completely lost it. It must be the medication.04-cheers

Not even suggesting that. I am just saying that sometimes teams do get better late in the year.

Just a little '86 humor Pappy. Seemed funnier when I posted it, now that the effects of the medication are wearing off.04-cheers
Something "clicked" for the 86 team. I think it was the second point guard. Sometimes a little thing makes a big difference. Hope so this year.

I don't know if that was all of it, but Paul Springer made a big difference when he took over. He didn't score much, but he got the ball to the guys that could. If I remember correctly though, he lost his starting job the next year or so to Juric Brown.
