I'm blown away by this news. Urban has wished him well. I'm now a believer they will move up sooner then later..
Source?
Sorry in advance for coming to your board if that offends you...

Many Dukes take the hiring of Ohio State's Everett Withers (no presser yet but there is a lot of smoke and JMU is not denying the deal is done) as a sign that JMU is indeed positioned to make a move to 1A in the near future. Some speculate the MAC based on a somewhat loose connection between Ohio State...MAC (Ohio centric)...name recognition for recruiting...who knows. I'd be thrilled with the MAC or CUSA.

I hope JMU and ODU see each other as 1A state foes every year in the near future. Who says VT and UVA will continue to rule Virginia football? Things change as you guys know well...

All ribbing aside, this is exciting news for your team, university, and fanbase. I hope he makes JMU football exciting again.
Wow, Great Get. Congrats To The Dukies.
I'm Everett Withers and I'm 50, 50, 50 years old!

You'd hope they gave him some for-your-eyes-only info about a move to FBS to give him some sense of what they're expecting. I can't imagine the job is as appealing to him if there's a reasonable chance that JMU is in the CAA for longer than a couple more seasons. I don't think the Ohio connection means MAC, per se, but the Ohio State thing would seem to indicate an interest in next-level recruiting.
Just to clarify the header from the OP, Withers is a Co-DC and assistant coach at Ohio State, and not the OC. From what I have read the Buckeyes will be releasing their defensive coaching staff following their bowl game.

So a coach that is being fired and they don't want. 03-lmfao

Ohio State has a 24 -1 record during 2012 & 2013. Ohio State is playing in the Orange Bowl in two weeks. I'm assuming Ohio State has Co-this and Co-that for a simple reason, Ohio State's athletic budget is flush with cash and can pay these guys $585,000. He is not the assistant OC, apparently, Ohio State does not have "a" DC, they have two.

I'll take Withers any day and twice on Saturday's. Today, I've seen him listed as assistant HC & Co-DC... I don't care, Urban Meyer hired the man to coach football on his team. It's a helluva hire for what is currently an fcs program and strongly points towards 1A in the near future.
That's big news, congrats JMU on that hire. Regardless his job title it's a splashy hire.

Didn't ODU just hire a linebacker coach that would likely have been fired in about two weeks from today?

Personally, I think the linebacker coach ODU just hired was a great hire for the coach and ODU.

good luck

Big deference, in actuality jm poo fired their loser of a head coach and the staff knew a new regime may or may not need him, (other staff members, as well). So he decided to jump off a sinking ship. In your case, the defense at OS sucked and the head coach who is still there was planning to fire him after their bowl game. So jm po picked up the coach that Ohio State DID NOT want anymore. Go ahead put lip stick on that pig if it makes you feel better. 03-lmfao There is a reason the OS fans or so happy to see him go and the University is laughing all the way, because jm poo bailed them out. He will have to take a huge pay cut. NO FBS School would have wanted him.

good luck

Eh its probably a pretty good hire. I am surprised they hired another defensive guy. They were probably able to get a coach that would typically be a little above their level due to the fact that he was about to be fired, and if he worked under that D-Bag Urban, he is probably a pretty good recruiter. Overall, I would give this hire a B, it would probably be an A if he wasn't a defensive coach.

I think its a great hire, the kind I wish we had made for our men's basketball opening. Wonder if he will bring some recruits with him.

I bet by this time next year he will have at least signed some.

This is cutesy-poo and all, but what happens at an FCS school shouldn't bother us as we've got bigger concerns at the moment like: 1) men's bball and 2) a full FBS slate next year
I care about this hire about as much as I care about a Randolph-Macon hire...it has no bearing on the I-A/FBS landscape. Besides, what I'm reading on here is that he's a Butch Davis disciple. So he comes from 2 clean programs...that should end well...
