I went back and counted every SBC conference game that was played on a day other than Saturday.

We had 2 games on Tuesday, 4 on Thursday and 1 on Friday (day after Thanksgiving).

My question is if the conference decides who plays in these games? Or does ESPN? Or are the schools free to schedule them whenever both schools agree?

I understand in early March the conference football schedule will come out. I am anxious to see who will be playing in those 7 non-Saturday games.
If past is prologue, you won't have any Tuesday games next year. Unfortunately we probably will. Hopefully, these games will be on the road.

USA actually sometimes chooses to hold games on Thursday nights. Part of the problem is that some people at USA think that they wont have anyone show up if Alabama or Auburn are playing at the same time. I think that's not the case. USA should play all of their home games in August, September, and the first half of October on Saturday nights, when its not so friggin' hot.
ESPN decides.
Black Friday games are stupid for our level... We had only 14k announced at our game. It's never that low at Troy.

The game wasn't even on tv.
I am not a big fan of Tuesday games but I could see Thursday night games drawing a good crowd here in Statesboro.

So ESPN decided that Troy played a home game on Black Friday?

Yes they did.

To me the last game of the season would always be USA (our rival) and on a Saturday.

I should clarify. ESPN picks the teams that play on Tuesday and Thursday in games televised by ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU.

Don't know about the Troy situation.
Well they will have more games to chose from next year with 11 teams as compared to 8 teams this year. We don't really have rivalries with teams in this league yet, other than Appalachian, so we probably won't be in 1 of those 7 games. If we are I would figure it would be the Ga. Southern/Appalachian game.

I am not sure. That's up to the league. If I was going to hazard a guess, we'll push ESPN to give a Thursday Night game involving one of the new teams. May not be at home though. The other three will get their fill of the Saturday Regional Broadcasts.

Texas State and Georgia State were not on ESPN at all this year, but appeared a combined 5 times on CSS.

I am pretty confident that ASU/ULL will be a Tuesday Night game again. That game has gotten good ratings the last two years.

I don't think we missed any games that weren't visible somewhere; unless it was a home game I attended.

Didn't somebody say the newbies had to "Pay their dues" before getting one of those games? (at home at least)

Usually its done because ESPN wants to see whether or not you guys will get a name.

I could see an App State or Georgia Southern game getting on ESPNU next year, simply because there is enough recognition there involving both programs. I think App has the lead in that department because they play both ULL and ASU, who are the two big names right now.

About 12k more than would have showed up if you played in that Saturday.

I don't think so. Even with the iron bowl... Most my friends couldn't come due to family obligations or work. And they don't care about the iron bowl.

App State played a game v. Woffrord on a Halloween Friday night a few years back that was nationally televised on ESPN2 (I believe). It's the only time I can recall a regular season FCS game on national tv, and it is one of the all time high attendance marks for an App home game. (It was also a comical blowout but that's not the point)

I've been pretty confident that App will be at least one of the televised games next year, it wouldn't surprise me to see the App/Southern game on.

THIS. I'm tired of USA scheduling around Alabama and Auburn games. So we end up with games that people don't go to because its 1000 degrees and we're playing the games at 2 in the afternoon.

I don't think Alabama and Auburn really impact our attendance.

Here's what I would propose for USA as far as game time.

August, September, and first half of October. Unless the game is televised on broadcast television, kickoff will be at 7pm. The games will be played on Saturdays only with the exception of Labor Day weekend, where we will try to schedule that as an away game, but if not able to do so, it will be on Thursday.

Second half of October onward. Games can be moved around and during the day.
