Went to a neighborhood party last night and was offered a beer. I said yes. It was Budweiser, which I haven't had in decades. Now I remember why. That stuff is gross, just awful. Came home and washed out the taste with a Moretti La Rossa.

Friday night I had my first Sam Adams lager. It will be my last.

What's your choice?

Others I like of late:

Peroni is my default. Had a Monty Python Ale that was awesome. Newcastle is a nice winter ale.
Local brews are killing it right now. Some of my favorites recently: Wiseacre Coffee Stout, Wiseacre Oktoberfest, Memphis Made Fireside Ninja.
My winter choice is Short Straw Farmhouse Red Ale. It's made by the Blue Moon peeps.

Wise Acre is making consistently great brews. Memphis Made is good - I really like High Cotton although they are trying to appeal to the hard core craft beer crowd.

there are 3 places in midtown where you can fill a growler now including Cash Savers:

is this the "Get Up To Get Down" coffee milk stout?

If so, that is seriously one of the best dark beers I've ever had...I'm normally not a stout fan, but I LOVED that stuff.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is still one of my favorites as is Rouge Shakespeare Stout. The consumption of the Buds and Michelob's of the beer world are declining steadily. Beer drinkers including young drinkers are turning to the good beers instead.
Full Sail's Session Black Lager is my go to at the moment.

I just posted an article about the Cash Saver spot.

Lately I've been a big fan of a High Cotton red (not sure of the name), and Wiseacre's pilsner & coffee stout.

I've had one of Memphis Made's beers, and I wasn't impressed at all. Could have just been the particular one I had, though.

For something that's not local, I do like Shiner's Cheer that they make during the holidays. It has a little hint of pecan that I like.

Yup.. that's it. Awesome stuff. You mentioned Wiseacre's Pilsner, too. That's Tiny Bomb. Good stuff. I've kinda overdone it recently, though.

I haven't been crazy about High Cotton, but all I've had is their APA and Saison. I've heard their IPA is pretty good. I'll need to check that out.

I know one of the high cotton owners and they are trying to rotate out their selection pretty often. They're also into pushing the limits of what they brew.

Ghost river is killing it (sales) although i think most of the other local beers are better.

Too bad Chuck cashed out of Ghost river, guess he felt it was time for him to retire. Most folks in memphis don't realize how well respected Chuck is in the craft beer and beer competition world.

It's been awesome to go various restaurants and bars in downtown and midtown in the past few months and see 2, 4, and 6 different local beers on tap.

I had a sampler pack a few weeks ago that included that, their Winter Abbey Ale, and a couple others that I can't recall. Not a big surprise that I liked them all.

Agree with Newcastle, have a 6 pack in the fridge right now. Also been into Shock Top Belgian Wheat lately.

I remember liking Labatt Blue at some point in the distant past so I bought a 6 pack a while back....that stuff is like drinking a Lite beer (or Coors Light, Bud Light, etc.)....like water....

Peroni as a go to beer? My Wife would agree.

I've also been drinking Shock. It was nice to find Goose Island Honker's Ale here. That was my go-to when I lived in Michigan.
For those who are not familiar with the Moretti La Rossa, I buy it at Natalie's in Cordova, it's a 7.5% dark beer. Delicious.

Lots of good suggestions so far, thanks to all.

that's right - I was thinking Tiny Bomb was their IPA (I'm not a fan of IPA's), but I was getting it mixed up with Ananda.
If anyone wants something strange but tasty, try Xingu.

Images for Xingu

It is a bit disconcerting when pouring in a glass because it is literally a "black" beer. It is surprisingly lighter than you would think, and quite tasty. Comes in a 4 pack so I wouldn't make it a regular in the rotation but is a pretty good novelty to pour for someone you know that likes beer....but not the heavy kind.
