Hagins is showing me that he can be a solid player, and maybe a great player the next two years. However, if history repeats itself, he won't be here for his Senior year. We nearly always lose one of our best players prior to his last season. Sometimes before. Especially guards. Zach Wright, Stevie Moore, Nick Zachary, Chuckie Guy, and maybe others I can't recall.

Kemy showed some things last night I've been expecting of him. He still has some upside. James White could be a dominating player in the next year or two. He's not there yet. His potential will be tied to how much he wants to be great and how hard he'll work at it. D'Vonte Smith is a winner at point guard. I thought coming in, sight unseen, he'd be the man at the point this year, and after seeing what he's doing now on the court as he gets more D1 experience, I still think he's the man. No offense to J.T. Thomas, but I like D'Vonte's game better.

Jury still out on Stetson. I had high hopes for him when he was recruited, but hasn't shown his supposed ability to score yet. He's definitely a question mark. Isom will get better. He will get stronger and I see him as kind of a Jeanette Merieux player, who played on our Lady Trojan team. He'll get stronger and will get hot from time to time from the three point arc as he matures. Hill and Poulter are definite question marks right now.
We've never seen Poulter, and Hill has had limited minutes. I heard Bobby Vint is high on Hill, so that gives me encouragement.

Here's my big worry. How do we replace Will? I see nobody on the roster who can score like him and nobody on the recruiting board yet. Maybe we can find a strong juco to come in next year. Without Will this year, we'd be worse than we have been. Oh well. No sense worrying about next year. Just have to live in the moment and hope for the best.04-cheers

Josh strikes me as a different sort of kid. More like Dillard personality-wise than like Gillon and some of the others. (I could put that a little less diplomatically, but you get the point.) I expect him to stay, and to be one of our all-time great guards by the time he leaves.

Kemy showed some things last night I've been expecting of him. He still has some upside.

Kemy has a lot of upside. He shows that when he goes on his streaks. We just have to get him to be more consistent. And he is strong as a bull, which means he can handle some of the tougher defensive assignments.

James White could be a dominating player in the next year or two. He's not there yet.

No, he is not there yet, but he is better this year than he was last year, and with big men you just want to see them get better each year. What I like is that he already is turning into a more consistent rebounder, and that makes him very valuable to this team. The offensive will come, and he is not bad now - but LOTS of upside.

Time will tell, but this may be the best tandem of points we have had since I have been a fan.

I agree the jury is still out. The staff said when Stetson was recruited that they viewed him as a defensive stopper. He is the type player that it is hard for fans to evaluate, because we do not look at the type things coaches look at. His total lack of offense concerns me. But he strikes me as a kid that listens and learns, so he may get there. He doesn't have to be a star to be a contributor.

Isom will get better.

He had better, because he is not there now. He is only a freshman, and the staff says he is a knock-it-down shooter, so we can wait. He has the size, and that is a plus to a program that has usually had to make do with undersized perimeter players.

Here's my big worry. How do we replace Will?

You don't replace Will, because there are very few players out there like him. I haven't seen on anywhere near him in my years here. The make-up of the team will change, but there will be someone who will fill the role in a different way. Josh can be a dominant scorer, and so can James. The juco kid can light it up.

Good post, Doc.

Our lack of depth concerns me. Real drop off when the starters come out. Gus brings different things (size, bulk, defensive presence, rebounding) when he comes in, so he is not a liability. I'm hoping Isom starts stepping it up. Getting JT back will help some.
In most of these cases, we are not talking about upperclassmen. We are talking about sophomores and freshmen. Lots of players do not come into their own until they pay their dues and mature. It is the coaches' job to be able to evaluate if the players have the talent and work ethic to get there.
