The other day I was listening to the Scott Van Pelt Show and he made an interesting comment. He was talking about Saban at Alabama. He stated that he was in Tuscaloosafor a game this year and he was with another coach on Saban's staff. He asked the asst
if Saban would ever leave Bama. The asst. replied " look over there and there were some men working on a building. He stated Nick wanted that and there building it. Here is the interesting part. The asst stated there has not even been a vote on it and it is a nine million dollar building. Why would he leave. He asked for something and gets it immediately.
Apparently according to these comment UAB should not ask for a stadium just start building it. The BOT is a joke. They should be treated the way Bartow treated them.
Do that and Watts will be sitting next to Queen Ann and Carol Z. in the old university presidents' home.

We're not playing by the same rules as the Tuscaloosa campus. Surely we've learned that by now.
I would be interested to know exactly what project that is. I don't see how that is possible and people not be put under a federal prison. A nine million dollar building is not easy to hide. I think he was pulling the audiences leg on that one. I don't see how that could be possible even in Tuscaloosa. They may all be crooks but that one is just too big and out in the open.

Knowing people that do work at the university and all the hoops you have to go through there has to be another explanation. Maybe it was earmarked for something else and was approved that way. No way it did not go through channels. Dollar figure is too big alone. Now if it is under a certain dollar amount they do not have to ask permission and another amound they don't even have to put it up for bid. Neither does UAB
The BOT would rather approve the buildings & just hand out the contracts behind the scenes.
If I'm not mistaken they started the new weight room without voting on it first. I guess it's the "golden rule" thingy.
If that was the case I would go after some of that work. They are not that stupid. They may manipulate things but they don't do that unless it is under the bid threshold. We don't even have to bid things in those cases.
They can do it and so can we if we get approval between sessions. Of course we know what the answeres are to both.

I have done it with medical projects for UAB and additional work at JSU.
There are enough people in Tuscaloosa that hate football, even, that if they started a $9 million project without any kind of approval it would have been outed pretty quickly. Everyone who signed the contracts would go to prison.
exactly

It has to be the new weightroom. You know, the $275 a square foot building built to replace the the ancient 11 year old weightroom the Tide players were subjected to.
I just built one with Legend weights, Lockers, coaches offices, whirlpool, etc for 175.
