They have a couple of 3 star defensive ends I wouldn't mind having. Quite a few kids that go there also have UT offers.

BTW, NIU has nine 3 stars already. Ball State has seven 3 star recruits so far. I don't think we have to be concerned about having the best class in the MAC again. UT has two. Maybe that's good. 03-banghead
Pssst...no one knows with any certainty that you've ever had the top recruiting class in the MAC. 03-wink

UT better keep getting top recruits because if they can't beat NIU or Ball State with superior recruiting classes they sure as hell are not going to beat them with inferior recruiting classes.

A down grade in the level of recruiting will in no way suggest that the level of coaching skills will magically improve in order to compensate for a drop in talent.
Pssst...no one knows with any certainty that you've ever had superior recruiting classes then NIU or Ball State. 03-wink In fact, all recent recruiting classes point to the exact opposite!

No need to repeat yourself. I saw your prior post, but in the absence of any documentation to back it up, I chose to ignore it.

Guys relax...the point is that recruiting rankings is anything but an exact science. You've been too hung up on them for years now.

We've all seen it...recruits listed to bigger schools who end up signing with MAC schools almost without fail get their star rating downgraded...recruits like Jordan Lynch go from 2-stars to the Heisman ceremony, and on and on.

It's basically a big scam to sell magazines and website subscriptions.

Some boards devote an entire area just to recruiting discussions I think think those fans might be a little more hung up on it than ours. What's the name of that one board that does that, ummm, Oh, yeah, AZZ.

Nobody is going to argue that recruiting is an exact science or that star ratings may not be somewhat subjective, but for me that UT/Mizzou game was an eye opener. I was surprised and very impressed with just how well UT matched up with Missouri with regards to speed, talent and physicality.

That game convinced me that our coaching staff's reputation as ace recruiters is for real and not just some marketing hype-----they have done a truly remarkable job in scouting and signing players.

Unfortunately I have also concluded that these talented teams have fallen far short of achieving the full measure of their potential and IMO that is entirely on the coaching staff as well.

Ummmm...waterboy...nobody is talking about discussions of players already committed to all sports at one institition, as you should know from your frequent visits to azz, is what makes up that forum. And those discussions make up probably 95% of the posts in that forum. And don't blame us just because we have a nice fan site that allows classifications of various discussion points. 03-wink

Maybe someday you guys can copy us in this regard too! 03-lol

Perhaps...don't know if I'd put that much stock into it though since it was just the second game of the season. But I think most of the top tier MAC schools (of which Toledo and BG certainly fall into) will come close to the speed, talent and physicality, at programs like Missouri. Where we fall short however, is in the depth. Once our front line guys go down, then the drop-off is significant. The reduction of scholarships in 1992 has certainly helped level the playing field quite a bit...I wish the NCAA would do a little more though.

They won't have those players when their coaches leave this year and they more than likely will leave.

Missouri was about one quarter away from playing for a National Championship, yet David Fluellen laid 200 yards of offense on them--100 rushing and 100 in pass receptions----Jayrone Elliot flat out lit up one of their running backs, stopping him dead in his tracks with a hit that had me cringing just seeing and hearing it over the TV-----Second game of the season or not, it was a pretty impressive performance by the Rockets at times and gave a pretty good glimpse of what they were capable of doing---unfortunately they never could find out how to do it consistently for a consecutive 60 minutes of play.
We need to keep the bar high, even raise it--on the sideline and on the field.

If our vision is but upward mediocrity, then that is what we shall achieve.
I dont know why they're choosing to only recruit a small class this year, maybe Toledo's not losing that many players, I haven't really pried into it but I do know they're only looking at getting about 15 more guys. I just hope we can keep the 3 star QB commit that we got from Ithaca, Travis Smith. Just read an article where the Golden Gophers are talking to him... and lord knows they have an edge as far as team names, I'm sure any true football player would want to become a Golden Gopher. But this kid hasnt lost a game since like 8th grade. I also think that if we had a better QB our season would have been a lot more successful. Just glimpsing over the roster we're losing key pieces but not lots of pieces.. just hope some of these guys start developing into what we'd hoped they would be..
Really? Team name? A team that consistenly loses to Wisconsin and Michigan year in and year out. They are a step up from Illinois, but they aren't on par with OSU, Michigan, Wisky.

He can make a name for himself at Toledo. QBs are knowing that, ask Lynch.

As something of an afficiando of facietousness, I suspect he was referring to, and mocking, the actual Golden Gopher name.
Ok good. Was a bit curious as to someone believed the Golden Gophers as quality.

There's only about 7 or 8 spots left in the recruiting class that would make it about 25. How big did you want it to be?
