I friend of mine in FL told me that freshman WR Rodney Adams from St Pete Lakewood is transferring to UCF after his mother passed.

On a side note, I wonder if that will have any effect on another incoming WR we have coming in this class from the same high school?
Bummer. Family issues take precedent, though. Hope the best for him.
My condolences and good luck to Rodney in the future.
He has some good friends from Lakewood on that team...the Griffin twins. Bummer, but had a feeling that may happen
Hardly seeing the field will also make a player think about leaving. According to the stat sheet from Downtown Coaches, he caught 2 passes in 7 games, so I doubt he really saw many plays (could have included special teams play). Not sure we did a very good job of rotating receivers and cultivating young talent at that position this season. Besides Adams, Corey Jones may have played but certainly didn't factor into many actual plays (i.e., 0 receptions and 5 total special teams returns) that I can recall...Seemed like we threw the ball to Reedy, Russell, and to a much lesser extent, Macon and Olack. Zach Rogers, who I think was a senior, also played in only 5 games and only caught 1 pass. Would have liked to have seen Jones or Adams really be given a chance to be more of a factor this season.

I had expected to see more of Adams in the rotations this year as well and I was surprised that he didn't see more time given the number of passes our receivers dropped this year.

I guess we're supposed to applaud your search for the real reason he is leaving?

Seriously?

The kid's mother died.
Rumor says we also have some juniors not coming back. They graduate in December and are not planning on returning. This is a concern that we get high profile recruits, use them very little or maybe get injuries and they leave. Haven't looked back at the numbers but would guess we lost between 30 to 40 % of them since freshman year. This is a general statement and has nothing to say about Rodney Adams, just noticed a lot of names missing from the roster.
Is this verified anywhere or is it speculation? His mother passed at the beginning of November. I didn't feel this was the forum to post that info, but noticed it on his instagram account at the time. He dressed for the NIU game, so he came back after his Mother's passing. I hope he sticks around...but, he has to do what is best for him. I don't know him personally, but have shot him a message or two on IG and he has been really polite and seems like a great kid.

It's not unusual for RS JR's to give up their final year if they are not seeing the field. Especially if they are getting ready to graduate. There is no reason to stick unless they want to try to get a few graduate classes in while the school is still paying for it. I would be really surprised if a JR left that was seeing significant playing time.

That's to bad, if they have the drive to get their degree in 4yrs or less, they most likely have a decent GPA. Would hope the coaches would see some way to involve them and hope for some leadership from them. They can't be that bad at football or we wouldn't have recruited them, they managed to make it the last 4yrs. If that's the case then it is more about football ability and less about education and character. Complete opposite of what the coaching staff is selling the public. Maybe that's part of our reason for losing to a powerhouse like Akron. I realize scholarships are different from 20 years ago, just very disappointing as football will end for all these players, education last forever. I give credit the schools that hold individual GPA not team GPA.

Not at all. Simply pointing out that his mom's passing may have been the deciding factor amongst others if he does transfer. Some kids treat their coaches and teammates as family and draw strength from them in difficult times like the passing of a parent, some don't and have the need to return home. Neither is wrong. Sorry if you were offended as that wasn't my intent. I lost a parent sooner than I felt I should have so I certainly don't want to appear unsympathetic.

Tampa, This one really stinks. I think the kid was not utilized like he should have been. He was going to be special player for UT. Any chance the coaches can sway him back? Very sad about his mother's passing.
I think the kid should go home if its what he and his family feels is best. In this case football is irrelevant. I would be pissed at this staff if they tried to convince this kid to stay if the reason he is leaving is family related.
Good luck to Adams…but man, I hate UCF (zero MAC titles).

Without question family trumps everything... but it was referenced somewhere earlier this season that he was contemplating transferring. The staff's #1 priority should always be the kids best interest.
Just saw a tweet from Adams..."last days in Toledo"...sounds like he's definitely gone.
