Don't know squat about NCAA rules and regs, and frankly, for this exercise, I don't care. In bidness, when the going gets really tough, the tough merge.

Here's the idea:

Create a conference with a footprint that covers a significant portion of the United States from the mid-Atlantic southward to Florida and westward to Texas

Create four distinct divisions within the super conference each promoting traditional in-state and regional rivalries with the added goal of reducing team and fan travel expenses while increasing fan interest and participation

All conference members are encouraged to schedule as many OOC games as possible against regional P-5 teams

Each year each division member is required to play at least 7 conference games, with at least 5 of those being against fellow division members

Each division crowns a champion based on total conference won-loss record with a structured tie-breaking system in place

A total of 3 playoff games (two rounds) decide the overall conference champion

Inter-division opponents for the playoffs are selected by drawing as are host sites

The championship game site is also selected by drawing once the two finalists have advanced

Mid-Atlantic Division
Marshall
Old Dominion
UNC-Charlotte
Middle Tennessee State University
Western Kentucky University
Appalachian State University

Southeast Division
Georgia State University
Georgia Southern
Florida Atlantic University
Florida International University
Troy State University
UA-Birmingham

Deep South Division
Arkansas State University
Louisiana Tech
University of Louisiana-Monroe
University of Louisiana-Lafayette
University of Southern Mississippi
University of South Alabama

Southwest Division
University of Texas-San Antonio
Texas State University
Rice University
University of North Texas
University of Idaho
New Mexico State University

MUST...Not....Get....Involved.....
If we wanted to play with your team, we would have invited your team.
UT-Arlington doesnt even have a football team. Idaho and NMST can barely field one. Southwest Division is basically UTSA, UNT and Rice
Please, go play on the Sun Belt board. A useless thread here.

Yes, that should have been Texas State University....I'll strike UTA and add the Bobcats.
With all due respect, Rice is sorry for neglecting most major sports for 40 years and is beginning to repair the damage. Starting with the 2003 Baseball National Championship, the first major-sport Div. I championship in school history, and continuing with this year's success in football, the recent return to bowling the last few years, facilities improvements/renovations either completed or scheduled, a new AD who graduated from and worked as Asst AD at Stanford,
Rice is heading slowly back up towards the peer group of rivals like they had in the old SWC.

We will deal with and try to enjoy our time here in c-usa because we effectively demoted ourselves through complacency and inaction, but we have 100 years of history saying we belong back with the big boys. Rice is 3-0 in football vs University of Alabama. Look it up! Ya'll can have your SBC/C-Usa merger to yourselves. Invite Trinity U. instead when we're gone. If you had our history, you'd feel the same.

eta: spelling, added c-usa name, added major sport
CUSA doesn't want your kind
I don't think all those teams will be involved, but I do think that ultra big super conferences will be the future model for the most successful non-AQ conferences. It may even be what allows them to become AQ in a larger playoff system. Think of the current 5 power conferences along with 2 or 3 G5 super conferences in a 12 team playoff. Say a G5 East, Midwest, and Western conference---each with about 20 members. That could give you a 12 team playoff with every conference being AQ---plus 4 at large slots. I know 4 at-large slots is a little small, but the whole playoff is only 4 slots right now.

Maybe the an east, mid-west, and western conference---each with about 20 members. That could give you a 12 team playoff with every conference being AQ---plus 4 at large slots. Those four at large slots is as large as that the whole playoff is now.

Thank you.
Nope. Not worth a return remark!
Granted I just had a large dinner - but this thread made me throw up in my mouth just a bit.
I guess the op assumes UTEP will be in the big 12 by then?

Yes, I admit it. After years of tedious research on this important matter I somehow missed a team that wasn't entering/leaving or generally bitching about being in one of these conferences.

Lol, UL is a much better team that La Tech, bigger fan base, more people in the stands, and they are going to a bowl game. I think Conf USA needs UL than UL needs Conf USA.
