If McGee had any sense of pride, he would just resign; instead we get arrogance. McGee has lost control of the process and can't even see that.
When did he have control?
I like his recruiting, and that is it. No hope beyond that.

Also, I think Tater Tot belongs down south. Not sure what he was thinking moving up north.
Tater Tot has taken his Zips from 1-11 last year to 5-7 this year. Compared to what we have...I'd take that.

I think that after only two seasons and one "completely his" recruiting class, McGee is probably looking at "damage control" measures such as new coaching hires that may match those he had originally tried to bring in but were hired away by the pros or other schools. We will see who he decides to let go and who he keeps in the next month or two. 66 days until NSD 2/5/14.

I would consider 5-7 as a turn around at this point.

Your point of view ignores that college athletics are a business. UAB athletics is not just another department of the university and it can't be run that way. The "other sports" are called minor for a reason. The core of our business, basketball and football, has declined significantly under Mackin's leadership. Since he became AD in 2007, UAB has played in one NCAA play-in game in basketball and hasn't had a winning season in football. After being involved in three major hires that haven't worked out, he would be out of a job at most schools.

Brian Mackin needs to move into a fund raising role and UAB needs to hire someone with experience in developing winning programs at the D1 level. Let that person, in conjunction with Dr. Watts and major boosters, pick the next coach.
If you think Mackin had any say in Callaway's hire, I've got some ocean front property in Opp I can let you have for a song.

Fact is, McGee looked like a great candidate on paper, and we all thought so.

He was part of the leadership team when Callaway was hired. He was specifically mentioned as being very involved with the Mike Davis hire months earlier so I doubt he was sitting quietly in the corner.

The saying "Evil prevails when good men do nothing" applies fully to the hiring of Neal Callaway.
People are awfully cavalier about other people's livelihoods.
If the fire isn't lit under McGee by himself, then we will have our answer on if he can get it going here.

I think the ammo is there, let's see what he does.

I remain convinced that "the leadership team" that engineered the hiring of FBHC Callaway was the same junta we have now running things in Tuscaloosa with the same regard for UAB input as they have now.

While many had some misgivings about hiring Davis, more than a few felt getting an Indiana coach was a step up AT THAT TIME. It was somewhat ironical that some of the same people who wanted him to leave were opposed to giving Cousins his NLOI "opt out clause" because they said that Davis only wanted to get a better job using Cousins as a boost. When UAB refused his request, we got to keep Davis a few more seasons.

McGee may not be the next great coach we hoped he would be, but UAB is not about to invite the "lack of program stability" reputation that a quick firing would invite. It is generally accepted that a coach will get a few years to bring in new recruits that he chooses. Right now, about 70% of his players are still Callaway's recruits.
Just curious, what do you think the current reputation is? I'm not saying to or not to for McGee but seriously, reality is lost on some here.

Reputation?

It ain't good. And I'm biting my tongue.
That's what I was getting at. BBF is worried about looking unstable as a program? Today and the past 11 Saturdays looked stable alright. I guess the only other team that looked less stable was the one that beat us today.

Letting an 0-23 team outscore you 49-6 in the 2nd half, on your own field is mind boggling...........it also doesn't look to stable (lol).

The recruiting is not the problem. The lack of discipline, and motivation are the problem. It first became evident during the Memphis game last year. McGee, regrettably, is not up for the job he was hired to do.

Recruiting is looking pretty bad though. Rivals currently has our 2014 class ranked 12th out of the 14 cUSA teams. Several of the commitments have no other D-1 offers. McGee is in over his head. That's why I wanted John Neal as HC. At least our defense would be good.
I don't fault Mackin for the McGee hire. I think most folks thought it was a good hire for UAB. He was one of the top assistants not just in the SEC but in the whole country. His name was even being bantered about as a potential Arkansas HC.

At this point, it appears that our gamble in going after a guy with no HC experience may not pay off. McGee is still fairly young. He might do well in the future and under different circumstances, but I think UAB is at the point to where the next HC will need to be someone with HC experience (even if it is at the FCS level).

There is nothing wrong with that..................there are a lot of good FCS coaches out there. Even the FBS MAC, which pays much less than CUSA, usually has several good coaches.
Our recruiting is bad, we cant get guys with committable offers from anyone else. The guys on our team are here because we are their only d1 offer. "As long as I get my education, im good." Half the players are either saying roll tide or war eagle all over twitter. They seemed more emotionally invested in the iron bowl than any Uab game ive watched this year. We may have 10 players who truly want to be here.

Some of us didn't get why McGee was suggested as a top assistant or for being a future HC. He had no say in the Arky offense and it shows in our offenses performances from start to finish in games.
