Connor Barwin is the best. What a great representative for our University.
Awesome article. A shame Cincy doesn't get a mention.
Other than the bits that show that money hasn't changed him, this article makes him sound like a total tool. Too bad.

I think thats the fault of the writer. Its the writer here who is the moronic hipster. And he's stretching way too much, saying Barwin is "redefining what it means to be a football player." This is the typical bull**** that comes from Grantland now. They have a couple legitimately good writers and a lot of others pretending to be and writing "cutting edge" stories. I think Barwin comes off as a relatively grounded, normal guy and one is different (in a good way) from many other players. But he is by no means the only player like this in the NFL. There are plenty

He just sounded like a nice, fun guy to me.
Would have been nice to get a Cincinnati mention, especially since they ate at Brent Celek's restaurant. Could have easily slipped that one in.

I thought he came across great. The kind of guy who tries to get to know everyone and what makes them tick or what they enjoy.

Agree it would have been nice to get a UC reference since he plays for the Philadelphia Bearcats.

x2. I struggle to understand why being genuine, cultured, and caring about things besides conspicuous consumption make someone a tool.

how so? call me a tool too then. i'd hang out with connor in a heart beat
A little over the top article. There were plenty of hipster bohemian NFL players in the 60's, 70's.
Dhani Jones certainly qualifies, although retired.
I have a good friend who was in the same program as Connor when we were all at UC, so I got to hang out with him quite a few times. I was never on first name basis with him so my impressions might be off. But he seems like the exact same guy. The natural inquisitiveness and openness that the author so gleefully highlights as being unique to Barwin in today's NFL (and its not in) was obvious then, and it would still be there if the ankle injury wound up costing him his career instead of a year. Thats just how he is, and he happens to be really good at football as well.

Don't try to fool me. You are in it for the possible free drinks and fine dining.

Connor Barwin - skinny jeans no socks wearing hipster who spends his days roaming the arts community.

Brent Celek - steak restaurant owner who spends his free time hunting wild game.

Yep, I know which former Bearcat I'd be hanging out with if I could.
