I've participated in the program since it began last year. I guess nobody maintains it anymore.

Supposedly, we were supposed to get points for check-ins using our connected Foursquare account at "away" athletic events. I checked in twice at Dowdy Ficklin twice for the UAB-ECU game, once before, once during, but never got any points.

Another problem is the shipping for out-of-area fans. You need to earn more points for the shipping than for earning the actual item. Why not just let us pay a USPS shipping fee instead?

Maybe thebernreuter emptied out their prize closet. 03-lmfao
I think that might have been a Brad Smith idea. Since he is no longer with the AD, they probably don't even realize the website is still active 03-razz
Yea I am getting screwed as well.
Same here! I've pretty much been the leader in points since the beginning. It has been a major disappointment. When they cut-off the Facebook connection, that is when it went downhill. I still do my fair share of Twitter activity, but I have nothing to show for it. I "cashed-in" over 300,000 points for a t-shirt back in August that I never received a confirmation or a shirt.

When it first started I posted so much UAB related stuff that numerous friends would ask me things about UAB. It really increased the visibility of UAB athletics.

I too have noticed that checking in using FourSquare gives you nothing. There hasnt been a "message of the day" in at least a year!
I had forgotten all about it.
Can it really have been a let down if it was never going anywhere to begin with?
I was wondering what happened to as well. Guess the site was ran like UAB Athletics... Half Ass. 05-stirthepot
Sounds like it died a quiet death, just like the Blazer "Rewards" program with the punch cards etc.
Instead of gimmicks why don't they invest the money they spend on crap like that to, you know, improve the athletics department. Or, to market to a wider audience through TV, billboards, and internet (not "social").

Apathy is always the worst of deaths...
Well with social media so much stuff is new and even experts in marketing are trying to figure out how to use some of the channels (facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc) the best. Its likely someone more social media savy started it, but if they left or changed jobs the next person wasn't as familiar or savy and didn't keep it up.
Sub Par performance is Par for UAB Athletics/Marketing, the need to clean house in more than one area is great

It was a service they contracted out. It wasn't some "social media savvy" person in the AD that built it or something. It was a salesperson that convinced someone in the AD to license/purchase that product and use it.

Yup. The same company is/was doing cookie cutter programs for a number of pro/college teams, including the Washington Capitals.

They still owe me a cup. Haha.

They used to have a lineup of events you could check-in for, and that never happened this year. I also think it was unceremoniously abandoned.
I made them aware if this issue. I also told them to view this thread.
I don't think it's a big deal. I'm more worried about being 2-8.

It's not a big deal in the grand scheme if things but if we want to be a big time program this is an expletive of the little things we need to clean up. We end up looking like a monkey banging a football when we screw up things like this year after year.

Worst Analogy of the Year candidate?
