Bearcats moving up in national rankings
11/18/13 at 10:31am by Tom Groeschen

The 8-2 Cincinnati Bearcats are gaining more notice on the national football scene, with a five-game winning streak. Included was last Saturday’s 52-17 mauling of Rutgers.

UC is now:

– 27th in the USA Today coaches poll

– 29th in the BCS rankings

– Tied for 30th in the AP media poll. One vote, yes, but still T30th.

The Bearcats rank No. 8 nationally in total defense and T10th in scoring defense. UC is No. 21 in total offense and T-31st in scoring offense.

KAY HONORED: QB Brendon Kay was named to the weekly American Athletic Conference honor roll. Kay had a career-high 405 yards passing and tied a career high with four TD passes in the win over Rutgers.

UNDERDOGS: While UC (8-2, 5-1 AAC) rides a five-game winning streak, the Bearcats are 3-point underdogs at Houston (7-3, 4-2) this week. Houston comes off of tough losses to nationally Top 25-ranked UCF (19-14) and Louisville (20-13).

Kickoff this Saturday is noon (ESPNews) at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. The stadium has a capacity of 22,000 and is home to the Houston Dynamo soccer team. The UC-Houston game was to be played at Rice Stadium (capacity 70,000), but the game was moved with the Dynamo playing away frome home this weekend.

Houston’s Cougars also play some games in the NFL Texans’ Reliant Stadium but that facility is not available this weekend, with the Texans in town. Houston drew 20,103 for its one game in BBVA Compass this season, against Memphis.

Who beat out Kay for offensive player of the week? All he did was throw four touchdowns and over 400 yards.

It's a soccer stadium. Wouldn't the surface be flatter than a football field, which is crowned?

Good question. Are football fields required to be crowned or were they just designed that way to have natural water drainage? Newer fields or artificial fields with better designed drainage systems might not even need a crown.

Soccer fields are crowned as well.
Beeter see a sellout in Houston, with moving to the smaller stadium. This would easily sellout at the Nipp.
Root for Wisconsin to beat Minny, Mizzou to beat Ole Miss tonight.
Need to get ranked.
Minnesota is ranked!!!!??? What a boosted conference.
Any word on the attendance in Houston. It looked like there were several hundred jacked fans there.

Think it highly unlikely UC gets ranked this week. The American wil only have a max of two ranked teams at any given week. UL won, UCF won.

We'll be just outside the 25...

Wasn't aware there a limit to the number of teams a conference could have in the top 25.

We are #27 in the coaches poll which is 2/3s of the BCS poll.

The Coaches Poll is 1/3 of the BCS. 1/3 is the Harris Poll (UC is #28) and the other 1/3 is the Computer rankings.

Just noticed this. No, the field did not have a crown.

Correct, human votes do count for 2/3s of the BCS ranking.
UC is 27 in Coaches and 28 in the Harris.
Does Colorado stand any chance against #23 USC?
