1-0 over Tulsa. Scored a PK with 2:32 to play.

Back in CUSA and won their first Tournament already.

At least UAB lost to the eventual champion.
When is the selection for the NCAA Tournament? Despite the end-of-year meltdown, I don't think there's any question that we're in...although we could've been a regional host the way our season began.
Selection is at noon tomorrow I think

This is correct.(11 CT) Here is a link that should work:

I wish we didn't decide who the host school is before the season. The #6 seed got to host, and lo and behold, they won!
UAB won their share of Sun Belt Tournaments as a lower seed because they were the host seed.
There was very little difference between teams 1-6 this year. All had pretty good RPI numbers(especially 1-4), and all beat each other up a little in conference play. It's actually a good thing that Charlotte won because their RPI was higher than our, and Tulsa could have stolen an at large. Hopefully our season as a whole was enough to get us in, but it's probably going to be close.

I know. It happens all the time in basketball and soccer, but it's still tough to earn a higher seed and then have the disadvantage of playing the lower seed at their place.

It's the way it works though, so too bad for us.

I still think we're easily in the tournament. Our seed will not be as good as we could have had.
Charlotte dominated us at WCF too. They were a better team then us on any field.

They matched up well against us, but there's a reason we got the conference 3 seed and they got the 6 seed. We had a better regular season overall.

I guess our seed is worse than I thought. 03-banghead 03-weeping

Their RPI was higher than ours.(before the C-USA tournament) And it's not like we finished 8 points ahead of them in the standings. They also finished the season winning games as we were losing. I still think we deserved a bid over some of the teams in the tournament, but Charlotte is a better team than UAB this year.

+1 They were down a man for most of the game at WCF and still out-shot and out-possessed UAB. I also think we got screwed and should have been in but I have no problem with Charlotte being in ahead of us.

Charlotte won the auto-bid, so there's no argument against them. I certainly never argued against them. They were a tough match-up for us (meaning they were difficult for us to beat). However, to say in general that they were better than us ignores the fact that we out-performed them in conference play during the regular season.

Were they better than us in the post-season? Yes.

In the regular season? No.

Your perception that they "outplayed" us when we tied earlier this season doesn't outweigh the fact that we finished ahead of them. If they were so good, they would not have lost those other games to put them below us in the standings. Plus, out-shooting someone is only an indicator of superiority. Out-scoring someone and finishing higher in the standings are the determining factors that matter.

I watched both teams play head to head, in person. I watched both teams play on tv or internet several times. IMO, Charlotte had a better team than UAB. When it counted, we didn't show we were better on the field and that is what really matters.
Yeah. Charlotte suffered a lot of really tough losses. We did too, but Charlotte also had a lot of quality wins. In our 3 biggest shots for quality wins in conference, we went 0-2-1.(UNM, ODU, Charlotte) We finished 2 points ahead of them in the standings(the difference between an OT win and a tie) and had nearly identical records overall. Again, I'm not arguing that UAB isn't good, I am arguing that Charlotte is really good. Just looking at their record is a fair way of assessing what kind of team they are.(when were there losses? who did they play? were there bad losses? etc.)

So they passed your "eye test"? 05-stirthepot

Quote:When it counted, we didn't show we were better on the field and that is what really matters.

This part is absolutely true.

I think we all agree though, that UAB got screwed despite our poor finish. Our body of work should have gotten us into the NCAA Tourny!
Defending National Champ Indiana got in with a 8-11-2 record by winning the Big 10 Tournament and is the only team in the playoffs with a losing record.

Charlotte has a #13 seed.
UAB #21 in the last regular season NSCAA poll.

UAB getting left out is the bull**** of all bull****.
Agreed. Based on our ranking and RPI for most of the season, it was a bit harsh to leave us out. There were a handful of teams that didn't deserve to be in over us for sure. Remember though, the tournament is 48 teams, and approximately half are auto bids. I'm sure we were definitely on the bubble.
