It's great getting a kid like Calhoun that can flat-out shoot the ball.

Agreed. Also great that he seems to be a big UAB fan. He's been fully committed to UAB for some time and he has done his part to help try to recruit others to come with him. Hard not to be excited about next year. But hey, this year has the opportunity to be special itself.
Yeah, his tweets strike me that he is a leader right out of the chute.

I think we have an NCAA caliber team this year. Not a lot of opportunities for big wins though so it'll be especially important to capitalize on a big win early in the season ie UNC or NM.
Win or lose against New Mixico, I think Nebraska or UMass could be a solid RPI win as well.

I wish I knew more about this New Mexico team. Are they returning a lot of starters from last year? If so, I can't imagine we shouldn't be able to compete with a team that got an early exit from Harvard last year in the dance.

Also, MB, when was the last time we either won or got far in to a tournament like this?
We need to win at least 2 in the tourney. I agree with MB, our 2nd round opponent will likely be at least an OK RPI team. Just like Rutgers, who I think will be better than expected,
We have to get as many of these RPI booster wins as we can, even if its just a modest boost. Our schedule is weak overall..
count me in the camp of "I think we have an NCAA caliber squad," as well..

This tournament can help us or destroy our chance to get an at large bid

We seem to play well against bigger teams. It's the teams with the small quick guards who can drain 3's that get us some times.

I agree we have the team to do it; I just don't think we have the schedule. I'm afraid CUSA is a one-bid league. I do think we're going to continue to get better and better and could be really good at the end of the year though. I just hate to have to win a damn tournament to get in. It's too unpredictable no matter how good you are.

If UAB can knock off North Carolina, and manage to finiish no lower than 2nd in the conference, I believe that the conference can sneak 2 teams in to the Big Dance. Southern Miss is "the one" , I suspect...
Win the tournament next week is a must .
Finish the first place in cusa , play in the final of the CUSA tournament and we are in
The NC game will be a bonus but we dont need it except if NC had a bad year and end up in the NIT
fYI very few non bcs teams make it to the tournament as at large bid (between 6- to 10 )
We do not have to win the tournament next week.
