Mike DeCourcy and Chris Littmann
Former Texas forward Mike Williams will transfer to the University of Cincinnati and join first-year head coach Mick Cronin, Sporting News has learned.
Williams came to the Longhorns as a highly touted McDonald's All-American, but struggled for much of his career in Austin. Williams blossomed late in his sophomore season, playing a key role with nine points and seven rebounds in a Sweet 16 win against West Virginia.
Williams, who averaged 2.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 58 games at Texas, will sit out one season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules and be eligible for the Bearcats in the 2007-08 season. He will be left with two years of eligibility.
The Longhorns have lost five of their top seven players from last season. Texas coach Rick Barnes may lose another if guard Daniel Gibson decides to stay in this year's draft.
