Thanks another milestone 01-donnankungfu
They were smart to pull out of the @ss whipping we would have put on them.
It provides magnificent perspective on how great a job Wilder, the staff and players have done in starting and establishing ODU's football program.

Wilder has piloted the team to another successful season under very difficult circumstances (outgunned, undermanned and on the road against the 5 FBS teams & having to keep the players motivated for every FCS trap game where ODU represents the opposing team's super bowl).

Hopefully, Charlotte can turn things around.
This is even more calamitous when you realize that Charlotte, unlike ODU and even GaSt, was able to recruit with the promise of FBS from day one.

In theory anyway, Charlotte should have been noticably ahead of both of us, personnel wise, for it's inaugural season.
That would be like ODU losing to Christopher Newport University. Pretty sad. If you can't build a winning culture in year 1 (see Ga State) it only gets tougher.

Go Monarchs! Winningest start-up program in history!

Mercer (Pioneer League) is 9-1 so far in their first year but I don't think they count. We've still got it!

Why wouldn't they count?

Pioneer league is still an official fcs league.

I don't see why that wouldn't count, especially with some of the crap teams we played out first year.
So we'll be the best start-up that offered scholarships then.
Point taken, Razor. Thanks for the assist.
There are a couple of eliminators to retain our title as the best start-up ever. They'll need to qualify for and win a playoff game in their first year of eligibility. If Mercer does that, then yeah, we can call them the best ever start-up. By the way, when was the last time a Pioneer team won a playoff game?

Good point. It will be interesting to watch their progress, as they at least resemble us record-wise. They join the Socon next year; I suspect they might "hit the wall" competitively after a season against D2, NAIA, and Pioneer opponents.

I believe we were eligible for an at-large playoff bid in 2010.

PFL members are eligible to compete in the FCS playoffs, but can only receive at-large bids, because until this year the league has not had an an automatic qualifier. No PFL school has ever earned an invitation to the FCS playoffs.
The Pioneer does however become an AQ league this year.
