That was UCs worst year in the last 15 or so... UC has been in the top 25-30 for a VERY long time before this years backlash...

Edit: Generally UC would be after UConn in this order.

I guess basketball is a new phenomenon to USF and Rutgers. I hope their numbers improve next year.

Big East All-Sport Average attendance: 11,778

Big 10 average attendance: 12,581

Difference of: 803

Once Louisville opens its 22,000 seat arena and we split or add Memphis the 30 year reign of the Big Televen as attendance champs is history.

Yes and no, in regards to USF. The Bulls have never been an attendance jaugernaut but when we have had successful teams we have averaged up to 7K per year, with the marquee teams generally selling out the ~10K seat SunDome.

However, the hope around here is that if we can get the team competitive on a national level again, attendance will skyrocket due to the Big East schedule we play and fans who have been staying away from the program coming back.

Don't be absurd.
What I find interesting is that the BC fans will tell you that they have had these phenominal increases in attendance in fb and bb due to going to the acc. Their fb average attendance had actually decreased from their last year in the BE to their first year in the acc. They blame it on bad weather.
And now it looks as though the bb attendance has not increased as well. They are nowhere to be found in the largest increase from the previous year category. But there are several BE schools that had a higher attendance including, USF, Nova and Marquette.

No need to hate on BC. They simply did what Syracuse and West Virginia wanted to do.

I don't blame Louisville, Cincy and USF for jumping to the Big East. Any other C-USA school would have done the same.

No one is hating on BC. Facts are facts. BC fans go to the SU rivals board all of the time trying to tell us that they have these huge increases in fb and bb attendance, when clearly that is not the case. In fact, the opposite has taken place. They had decreases in their fb attendance, and it looks like they may have had decreases in their bb attendance. Is that hating on BC because I point out a couple of facts that dispute their claims?

As for the Cuse leaving the BE, I personally did not like the fact that SU was going to go to the acc. I was glad that it did not work out. The way everything is coming together, it seems that in the long term , SU and the BE is doing pretty good for itself. ;-)
Some schools need to improve their attendence. Overall, it is not too bad. UCONN's number is that we are at capacity. I wish we got a bigger on-campus place to play. We have to share our games with Hartford Civic Center. Our on-campus only holds 10,500 I believe but we could easily fill 15K or more. Parking is a nightmare on campus though.

What? You mean you can't get the great state of Connecticut to fund a bigger on-campus basketball arena with sufficient parking??? 05-stirthepot

Most UConn fans I know seem to think they will leave everyone else behind in terms of sports facilities. lmfao

Neil

Neil,

I know you are being sarcastic, but I will try to answer your question anyway.

I guess it is not urgent for a larger basketball place since we do play at Hartford Civic Center with 18K capacity. They are also talking about a brand new basketball place for downtown Hartford for a new hockey team/UCONN basketball. I have no idea what will happen. I do know there are no more space on campus for a new basketball place. Gample is nice but 10.5K is too little for UCONN basketball.

SFHusky, when the Huskies play at either Gampel or the Hartford Civic Center, are there mostly sellout crowds? For some reason, I thought that Uconn averaged over 17,000.

The timing of Gampel was off by five years. If it was planned in 1993 versus 1988 it probably would've been built larger. Now UConn has a mid size arena oncampus with severe limitations.

Yes. UCONN sell out every men's game and just about every women's game too at both HCC and Gample. I like Gample better because it has a real nice college atomsphere to it. UCONN basketball tickets are expensive and they are hard to come by these days.
