Basically theirs is a poor rip off of ours combine with not doing it right the first time because you still have those dark patches on the field around it.
Right. Was ECU the first university to use their logo and state outline simultaneously? No. Bu the bleed feature is what differentiates our version.
yes, state can use the silhoutte of NC, anyone can. bit, iy's the composition that is copy righted, the combination of the silhoutte and mascot logo. That is the issue, not the silhoutte. UNC has a blank outline in blue, with NC in the jump circle, was not copy righted. ECU combine the silhoutte with a logo, and filled a copy right in 2009. NC State copied our compostion even using the same silhoutte, only changing the color and mascot (scaling does not matter). They say it came from a bumper sticker, but that sticker only appeared last year. It was taken straight from our logo.
I think it funny as hell they copied us. They can deflect all they want, they did and everyone knows it. It's blown up in their face. A lot of bad press both local and nation, with free pub for ECU. They got bad feed back from fans, the students, and now the student paper, which ripped them a new one. IMO, NC State will try to make this go away quietly, but fast.
If there are any legal Copy Right issues it will be kept quiet. We won't hear a thing.
I have heard that Indiana was the first school to use their state on their basketball floor. If that is true, then everyone else copied them.
I'm confused about what the issue is...

North Carolina drama. The big school with the wannabe complex is ripping off anyone it can for its own marketing promotions.

I get the whole "We had it on the football field first, they had it on the basketball court. So there's the difference". In the end, the first one to actually use a pic of the state in the middle of anything (football, basketball, field hockey, whatever) was UNC.
Corrct?
How about this. We were the first to use a logo that bleed past a state border.
Or something like that. Maybe a graphics person has a better way to phrase it.

This is what the ECU logo would look like if we had copied UNC in the same fashion that NS State copied us. ECState, er NCState is more than welcome and has every right to include the outline of Mississippi, er North Carolina into their marketing logos... Their problem is that they blatantly copied the entire concept of the idea that was already done... All artist, myself included, "take" ideas and build upon them. Copy cats, just steal the idea, and don't have the creative skills to do any thing with them once they are stolen.
If anyone can not see the difference, I don't want to sound like a troll, but you are just stupid.
Just as some NCSU fans were embarrassed by the school's blatant rip off, I would never attend another ECU game if the above was on our field. It is THAT obvious.

The only problem is, I guarantee you that in less than 3 games with that on their field, there will be claims from, not only their fan base, bit others as well, that we copied them. If fact, I have already seen this happen on some comment sections.

They had a silhouette, but their old one left off the OuterBanks altogather.
Yes, in NC, UNC was the first to use the shape. But, ECU was the first to combine the shape with a mascot logo.
Another point of fact, ECU was the first to copy right our logo, UNC didn't have their mid-court design copy righted and it is not used as an official logo by UNC, ECU does.

Maybe ECU was first to do that and put it on the field but putting a mascot in the middle of a state logo isn't an ECU thing. Marshall sold stickers in the early 2000s with the WV state design with Marco in the middle. We have a 2002 GMC Envoy and that sticker has been on it since the week we purchased it. It's similar to the picture in my signature.

Actually the first time I ever saw the use of the state outline was Indiana on their basketball court, quickly copied by Kentucky and UNC. Don't know how widespread it is since.
why does it matter??? honestly...

Is bleeding the correct term our logo does on the NC outline silhouette? I truly think that modification is what sets ours apart.

Because someone asked. It mattered to you enough to burn 30 seconds to ask.

It matters because someone was paid a lot of money to design that... It stands to reason that the person/design firm that designed it should be the one getting paid, not the hack who stole it.
Maybe ethics and plagiarism wasn't covered at all universities? But it sure as hell would've been a big fat F at ECU's School of Art and an immediate expulsion from the university.

Eh... Sort of. I think of the term bleed as a way to set up a file to print beyond the edges so that when it is trimmed to its final size, there is no white paper left due to printing tolerances.
But you are correct. Not only does our official mascot logo bleed or over fill the shape, it is also our mascot logo and not our word or letter mark logo as in the case of UNC.
In fact, I don't even like referring the the PSOM as a logo... In my opinion, it is the shape of NC with our logo inside and overfilling the NC shape. It is more using the logo within a shape for a nice composition than it is a logo itself. A designer could use the same logo in any shape and that does not make the shape part of the logo, it just defines the composition. As an example, I may use the logo within a banner ad on a web page, so it would be cut off top and bottom, but the banner ad does not then become a logo... Ehhhh, maybe all this makes sense. I am obviously a visual person as opposed to verbal, so I find it hard to really use actual words. :-)

Where can you get that shirt? My brother is an alum, could be a good X-Mas gift.
may not be for sale anymore....it's old...it's from around 2009ish.......
